I am happy to drive a day out sort of distance like what I did today. I drove from where I live to the West Somerset Steam Railway for a Day Out with Thomas the Tank Engine. I was tired driving all that way: two hours each way. My little girl vomited and she does this on a journey over one hour long. I prefer to take the train but the lines are too limited. I can go to Bristol by train because parking there is a nightmare. I take a train if I am traveling from Somerset to Yorkshire. It is too long a distance for me to drive. I would drive up to around one hundred miles. Over that I would take the train.

I'd much rather drive just about every where I go... If it's within 12 hours of driving distance, I'm good... Most I've driven without a break, other than stopping for gas & bathrooms, was 22 hours... I stopped 4 times for about 15 minutes each to fill up & go to the bathroom then right back on the road... But that was an exception... Anything over 12 hours can be tiring anymore... I just like driving... Even when I'm on a schedule, I always give myself enough time so I can just drive & relax...

I also prefer to enjoy the journey if I don't have any specific plans like school, work, meetings or appointments. If I know that I have enough time I think it is really nice to listen to listen and enjoy every part of the journey. When we have enough time my husband and I often choose small and less popular roads instead of the direct route from A to B. My husband is driving and I like to look at the scenery while we are driving. Sometimes we discover some small places that we have never heard about and it is always nice to experience new things. If we find some interesting houses I take pictures of them before we continue.

I've never been a good driver - women are not, as all the men know! I wouldn't like to drive too much. But even if it's a long distance I wouldn't hurry up. We can really enjoy the journey, make stops at interesting places. This means to travel.

Hello hsofyan
I agree that if there is no critical need at the destination and also if I have no pressing time, then I do enjoy the journey of driving. Mrs. Turner and I are going to embark on a road trip this Monday. We will be driving about 1,700 miles (one way) and while we are excited to get to our destination, we are also looking forward to the drive.
Peace

We will be taking a couple of digital cameras with us, hsofyan. We usually make lots of photographs of our trips, whether they are long or short.
