"Reading maketh a perfect man". Reading broadens your perspective ,enhances your vision and also comes in handy in making decisions provided you adapt what you read to suit you in your practical life. There is a regional proverb in our Tamil that says "just reading alone does not help in practical life"If you see the words "bottlegourd' written in a paper can you cook it?You cannot .This is what the proverb expresses beautifully in Tamil. However, unless you cultivate a habit of reading you are likely to be very shallow in your approach.Knowledge gets enhanced only with reading .Getting practical comes with a lot of common sense and down to earth approach.Even if you read idealistic stuff you must be able to be realistic and this would come if you open your eyes wide and observe what is going on around you.Read good material but choose your action based on realistic successful ethical approaches.

It should be 'Reading maketh a full man..conference a ready man and writing an exact man'(Francis Bacon)

I think reading is very important, and should be done every day for at least thirty minutes if not more. You could read anything on any topic, just read. It will increase your knowledge and understanding of vocabulary and other points of views, besides your own. I also recommend writing at least weekly, either on a blog or in a journal.

Reading and writing is important as it broadens your experience and you learn many things from reading other people's work.It helps you with your English, and also educate you in areas you do not know much about. How anyone can go through life without reading something substantial every day, even the news, I do not know. If you don't read you don't know what is going on in the world and stay ignorant. In the writing arena it is imperative that you read and keep up to date with topics we all should read and know about.

Reading is one of the aspects of learning. A real significant instrument in our lives so we can gather thoughts day by day. By reading, we are gaining more insights and we are also molding our writing skills. It also strengthens our analytical or rationalizing powers :D 1-4 hours of reading is enough.. :D

All I can say that the things you read previously may probably contribute to whatever scenario you could encounter in the future. Even in the simplest, unknown novels, you may learn some things that you could apply on to your own experiences. The knowledge you could learn along the way may be something of general information, of the sciences or arts, or even from the philosophies and ideals in life. It would all depend on what you read and on how you comprehend and instill with yourself the content you stumble upon.

Depending on what you read, you will be able to learn that there is more than 1 side to a story and you get to understand that the most aggravating things can happen due to simple misunderstandings. As you read more, you're able to read and process the information faster and this may help when you're lost or trying to understand long contracts or documents. The language used in official documents tend to differ from language used everyday so the more exposure you get to reading, the more likely you are to be able to understand such documents as you'll have a greater vocabulary.

Reading in fact makes a full man.The habit of extra reading should be cultivated properly in order to have a close understanding of the pros and cons of a subject or incident in question. Reading increases the horizon of knowledge about things and experiences. Making correct judgments would often depend on the kind of knowledge that one has amassed.Hence in practical day to day life, reading promises full awareness of responses.

I would say reading is vital. I have been reading since I was able to read and even though I read only fiction, it has improved my vocabulary, given me lots of knowledge about many things that I would never have known otherwise. It has helped my fluency in languages and it is a great exercise for the mind to invoke a healthy dose of imagination and creativity. We just need to make sure that we don't monotonize our reading, and keeping a good number of variety and newness in it.

I have been a book lover since my childhood and read all kinds of books provided they are quality ones.I have read classical books as well.Reading good and quality books has a positive effect on me.It has helped me exercise control over myself and be as selfless as I can.I feel,if I had not this habit,my life would have been spoiled.Reading quality books has enabled me to enjoy the beauty hidden in struggles of life.
