Tomorrow is my birthday, and while it won't be any big celebration (since I won't let the dogs or cats use the oven to bake me a cake), there is one thing that I could get for a birthday present that would make me very, very happy. Rain. Not a deluge, monsoon, or storm that will flood and/or knock out power ... just a nice, gentle, steady rain. All day. Like much of the country, we've had a long period of record-high temps and no rain to speak of for weeks. We got a quick storm that knocked out power for a couple of days, but the rain itself did little to help the extremely dry ground and crops. We've had a couple of days where we were supposed to get intermittent thunderstorms, but have got nary a drop. We're parched. The temperature did cool off a lot today and I was able to open the windows and feel a cool breeze, and for that I am thankful. But we still need rain. That's all I want, some precipitation. No cake. No ice cream. No flowers and candy. (Ok, maybe just a little). So how about you? What did you wish for on your last birthday? Were you surprised, or disappointed?

Happy Birthday Ldy, can I pretend it is my birthday and ask for the same thing? You are right, the cooler temps have made it more bearable, especially when it comes to cooking, but we so need some rain. Actually, every year when my birthday comes around, I would like to do what I want. For example if the weather is okay, (my b-day is in Nov, but there has been nice days in Nov before) I want to spend the day going on a hike. If the weather is bad, perhaps a movie if one is out that I want to see. Or a shopping spree would be nice, but my husband knows me, I'll be practical and get things I need for the house or something..lol

I'm not a lavish spender either. I have so many things that need fixing around here, even if I did get a windfall for my birthday, I doubt I'd buy anything for myself, as in a personal item. It would likely be for the house, or the yard.

I love unusual words or those not oft used! If I get no rain (and I doubt I will), I shall just be glad that I am here and able to celebrate another birthday.

My birthday hasn't come yet this year, but I may be wishing for the same thing. We had a nice rain a couple of days ago, the first in almost two months. I'm hoping the weather has broken and that we will get rain more regularly. (I can hope!) If not, I'll be wishing and hoping for rain, too.

Crazy, isn't it? We've had a couple of days over 100 degrees, and many, many in the high 90s. Got almost to 90 today and even that felt wonderful, compared to what we've had.

Yeah, it's nuts. We had almost a full week of over 100 degrees, which is really unusual for this area. When it dropped to the 80s after the rain, I was in heaven! I turned off the air conditioner and opened all the windows.

First, Happy Birthday! On my last birthday, I was really surprised because my son was accidentally burned by hot water. I was at the office that time and we rushed to the hospital where I saw him being treated in the emergency room. I really cried that time when I saw him crying too because of pain. Good thing that he doesn't required any surgery. Now, his skin is already back to normal and a slight discoloration is only you can see but it will return to normal according to his pedia. That will be my most memorable, worst birthday. This happened last march.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that your son was hurt! My oldest son (who will be 31 next week) burned the bottom of his foot very badly on a bicycle tire that was moving, it ate up most of the bottom of his foot. We were really worried that he was going to have permanent damage there too, but the drs who treated him immediately when he was brought in did all the right things, and I don't even think he has a scar today. Scary stuff, for sure. I was 8 months pregnant with his younger brother at the time, and they thought I was going to go into early labor. We were both on active duty at the time and his dad was a couple of hundred miles away, so it was even worse having to deal with it alone. I hope your son heals quickly, with no lasting ill effects.

He's okay right now. They said that 13 is a bad number but for me its the opposite one, 31. It was my 31st birthday when that accident happened.

Many returns for you on your birthday (tomorrow)! Rain is often regarded as a blessing in my country, so I hope you get what you wish for. I celebrated mine last month (yes, I turned 29!), I would have celebrated it alone. I decided to spend a bit to be with some relatives and some friends. See, I currently am in another country, and sadly I am always alone. I never wanted material things on such occasions. I just wanted company. A bit disappointed, felt lonely still even with company. I was blue that time, but things seem to be changing. If I had decided to stay where I am right now, I would have had boiled potatoes again for my birthday, like Christmas and New Year. And, boy, it poured that day!

I live alone and have no family nearby, so it's usually just another day for me, like other holidays. I did get to go home last year and celebrate with family and friends as my brother's birthday is the day before mine, and we celebrated for his 60th. It was also the 40 year anniversary of graduation from grammar school (elementary), so a lot of us got together and spent the evening at a restaurant/bar and had a great time catching up. That was probably my most memorable birthday.
10 Jul 12
Same here (alone and no family nearby). I was always told I should be out there having fun, but well, I am always short of funds. I haven't seen my family for years, and it isn't really easy to go home (plane fare and other expenses, oh and the travel time of almost 16 hours more or less). I am happy that my brother is coming here for business, and will stay here for 4 months. It's always good to see a familiar face. :) I found me a man recently (a toy boy, if you may, and a few days after my birthday, too!) so I hope things will change for me.

Yes, please have a cupcake for me! I will have none here. I will settle for a popsicle (or four). And good for you for beating the big C. I've never faced that villain, but I'm starting to develop other health issues and am thankful for every day God gives me.

I hear what you are saying about the rain. We have had so many triple digit days that 96 sounds like a cool front.I do not remember much about my last birthday, it was too long ago. We are almost to this birthday. We have had spitting storms, but no rain either.

Rain - A steady rain falling
May you have the rain you want And cake And the love of family and friends all around you! What I wanted for my birthday was to try an English Pub. There is one not too far away from my home. So during my birthday month we went. It was nice. On my Actual birthday I did my usual. We went to have my favorite pizza and came home and had my favorite cake!

This Pub is in the States. In fact they had a half US and half Union Jack flag out front. It had all the style of England With a burger on the menu! And Ice in the soft drinks. But actually I don't get ice in my sodas!

Can't say if I wished for anything... probably didn't, or if I did, it was for "a big bag of money" (said mostly in jest). We got a little sprinkle early this evening. Maybe the clouds heard your wish and decided to go to your place instead. Anyway, happy happy.

I just checked the forecast again before shutting down for the night. Nope, not a single chance of rain expected. Sunny 85 is the plan, but that's not bad, as long as there's a breeze. I'll get out and water in the morning before it gets too hot and call it good.

I hope you get your birthday wish! And happy, happy birthday! Farmers here around the Dayton area are talking about losing 2/3 of their crops. My grass is getting brown, though that hardly matters in the scheme of things. We got drenched, I think it was July 1, that big storm. Then nothing, really, just some rain the next day and then that heat wave with temps over 100. I'll pray for rain and hope that your wish comes true!

That storm came through here, but very quickly and didn't leave much rain at all, not enough to make any sort of dent. With the heat we've had, it dried almost before it hit the ground and was like it never rained at all. Heartbreaking. My yard is all crunchy and the only thing growing is the weeds. While it was still fairly cool this morning, I took a walk up the street with the dogs and see that all my neighbors are in the same boat. I don't think anyone tried to water their lawn at all. The sheep were all bunched together by the fence, under a shade tree. I'm not sure if he's feeding hay right now or not, but there's nothing but dried weeds in the pastures.

I can't remember if I had a birthday wish last year but this year I'll be celebrating my birthday on September & I wish I could have an out of town celebration with my husband. I just wanted to relax and at the same time enjoy life.

Happy Birthday! I hope you get your rain tomorrow. It's raining here in Melboure today but we are in winter. My birthday just went by on the 27th and I didn't expect anything so actually getting something was a surprise in itself. I stayed the night with my aunt, uncle and cousins. My aunt made cupcakes and I got a candle and got sung happy birthday which has not happened for many years so it was actually nice Also got taken out for lunch and then dinner by another aunt so I had a good time and actually did do something on my birthday which was a nice change

That sounds like a fun birthday! I may be spending it alone, or a friend might come over, and if he does, I am specifically going to request that he NOT sing. He's worse than I am in that department.

Advance b'day wishes to you. Every one is interested in celebrating their beloved persons b'day in a great manner and cherish the pleasant moments through out the life. Recently we celebrated my wife's b'day. We enjoyed a lot on that day. We have two little kids and both of our kids wished their mum in her b'day. I send an ecard to her as well as wished her in her fb account and other social site accounts. In the evening time we went to temple and submitted our prayers to the god and had our food in a good restaurant. She is very much interested in platinum jewels, i ordered for a platinum stud via online shopping and she got her stud on her b'day. She is very much surprised and delighted with that cute gift and thanked me a lot. I am excited while seeing her happiness. The real happiness lies in making our beloved person to be happy, we will get more happiness while seeing the brightness in their face. Every year we celebrated her b'day in a good manner, but this year both of our little kids started to talk well and wished their mum with their cute language, she is very much delighted with it. This kind of b'day surprises will give more enjoyment in our life

It sounds like your wife is very lucky to have you. What a nice birthday. I don't wear much jewelry, so the only stud I'd want would be a horse! (And even then, I'd geld him).

An early Happy Birthday to you. I do hope that nature cooperates and you get your birthday wish of rain... and some cake and ice cream, too. I had no real expectations for last birthday. Thankfully, my boyfriend came through quite well and gave me a very nice birthday gift and took me out to dinner at a great restaurant. He did well.
