Hi! According to the data of 2005, there 473,400 abortion cases in the Philippines. There is no latest statistics yet but i am sure it has increased because if you watch the news everyday, news on fetuses found in trash bins, in the toilet basins and in the park, in the streets is quite frequent. Actually, the Department of Labor and Employment here mandated that companies with employees of more than 200 should have a family planning program installed in their company because it was found out that many industrial workers are practicing abortion. These program was implemented in some companies only because most of the companies don't like to spend for the contraceptives and the information campaign. Family Planning is i think one of the solutions to this problem, because women or couples who do not want to have children but sexually active should use a contraceptive they choose and appropriate for them. The Philippines could not implement a Family Planning program freely because there are lots of hindrances lots of women die because of complications of abortion and complications of multiple pregnancy and childbirth.

At first, I didn't believe it...it's outright crazy. The woman is clearly not on her right mind. She should be put in to a mental institution. I would like to hear her side of the story though. I really wonder what made her do such horrible thing.

I watch this on TV last night and really envy with the girl. She will now face with intentional abortion and if he is being proven guilty of the crime she will be punish and cast into prison... She killed an innocent child...shocking

She's mentally ill or she doesn't want her baby for sure, she want's an abortion. Yeah she got a lot of infection and an ordinary thread is a no no for human body.

such a horrible news. Can't help but wonder how did the mother manage the whole thing? I mean, in a surgical team, the whole team should be complete because each member has an important role in an operation. The doctor alone won't make the operation successful. What more in this? the patient doing the work of the one,whole team? Gracious! What mind is that.

I did heard this news too. It is really terrible act of a person. This was what we are talking about this morning at the office. How she manage and brave enough to that for herself. Maybe she was out her mind that time for her to do that.

Looks like that the mother is suffering from mental problems and is not in her sane self. I think we should also be concerned about how her family has buried the baby of the mother since from the news report they asked someone to bury it in a vacant lot nearby. I think the family looks they need to answer this since the baby is also human and should be given at least a decent and proper burial as well. The whole family is actually insane in my opinion.

The news that the pregnant lady cut her own belly using a knife to get her baby out was sick and shocking. I think abortion is illegal in the Philippines and the lady must have been trying to do a home style abortion or home style caesarian section. No wonder she was hospitalized after doing such a thing and most probably has lots of infection. She will be charged with abortion I am quite sure of. I wonder why she didn't let the baby be born and have him or her adopted into a loving family. The poor baby and the silly lady.

I believe that abortion was her original intent. I heard this news yesterday and I was so shocked and disgusted. I wanted to hear what the reason behind this insane and inhuman behavior but the news didn't mention it. I am not one to judge, but I just believe that this is so cruel, not only to her child but to herself as well. I hope she gets herself treated and then face justice.

I have also watched this news and I can say that the woman is under a sort of depression because when interviewed what was the reason why he cut herself, she said there were a lot of people who will get mad at her or curse her because of that pregnancy. This is another case of irresponsibility towards our own action. I mean, yeah! she did it and now she have to suffer the consequences of having a child but she is weak and more concerned about what would people say and feel about rather than give the chance for a child to live.

That is really bizarre, she may have suffer from some form of mental illness temporarily that cause her to take such a drastic action to abort her baby. The pressure of having the baby born may have overwhelm her sanity due to personal or financial problem, it is a very sad and tragic ending for both mother and baby.

This is one of the most shocking story I've ever heard. Imagine how she managed to slice her own tummy and do the stitches without any medical help or expertise. I am trying to check for any updates of this news and haven't find one right this moment.

Obviously this woman is significantly suffering from such mental illness, taking away her own child's life would only make one to believe that she is not in her normal state of mind.

I saw that yesterday on the news!My initial reaction was OMG!poor baby..I think her mother is crazy doing that to her own self and to her baby. may the soul of her baby rest in peace.

Yeah I guess the mother is a psychiatric case in here. I think she needs to the care of psychiatrist for this one. Another bad thing about the incident was that the child was just dumped like they were dumping an animal by her relatives. I think they should also answer to the authorities why they never reported this and gave the baby the proper burial. The whole family is really crazy in this situation.

Oh Jesus!Is this true?So grisly!Wondering why she's still alive after that gruesome procedure of delivering her baby, not normal after all. Maybe her adrenalin was pumping too aggressively that she did not mind the pain and terrible hurt while bleeding with the cutting. I am wondering what happen to our world now with all these bad news around us.

As I was reading your post I can't help but "twitched in pain". I was thinking of all the pain she have to endure to finish her own surgery. And it's such a shame that her relatives are also involved with this self-mutilation and abortion. These people are sick! And oh the baby was thrown like a garbage. That is just unforgivable! By the way, is there really a law in the constitution making abortion illegal? I know majority of the people in the Philippines are against the act. But, I never heard of anyone who got imprisoned because of abortion, at least, not in this country. Maybe she and her family will be the first.

You cannot blame her for doing that to her self she can't afford to pay for maternity serviced that is she did it by herself. How can someone charge a mother with abortion after trying to save her own life and baby by giving birth of his own? don't you think it is unfair for her? Instead they provide her a help they would charged her abortion? Ain't it right!
