This is really true. I was into my post graduation studies till last year and that was the last time I really used a pen to write my notes and in the examination. Ever since that time I have been doing all work, typing, interacting, emailing on the internet. I might have taken up a pen twice or thrice to jot something, may be two or three lines down but not more than that. I really was reminded how the pen has vanished from my life after reading your post. Some day in the future its importance might fade totally, we never know.

oindy54 ...thanks for your kind response..Glad to note that you have completed your post graduation...yes of course with a pen which has made you to acquire a certificate.
Technology is so vastly and fast developing that a day will come when we may use only short cuts as these days many even are following in their chating....

Here we still follow the traditional way of studies and pens are an indispensable mode of writing in classes too. Did I mention that I have a huge collection of pens of different types? I bought pens like crazy during school, college and university years. But they are all stacked away now in a room and only two or three pens are around near at hand for our use. In fact if I had not read your discussion I would not have been reminded of my collection. So thank you for a great post!I think I will take them out again. I shall be doing another teachers' training course soon so I would need pens again. Then it would be a break from cyber life.

It is really eay to use keyboard or keypad in writing due to technologies that we have now.
But still in my work, I still need pen all the time to check papers, receiving documents and other things that involve remarks on papers.

I agree with you that using keyboard or keypad is really convenient and also work moves fast than a pen....but still we have to remember that pen is maintaining its monopoly in certain works which cannot be dominated with any other one.

I have never had that legible hand writing, so I find it easier to type. I used to try to write as neatly as everyone else and when my wrist did get injured about ten years ago, found that I could not write as long as I used to. I find it is easier to remember something that I can read that I wrote, although I am a visual learner. I do a lot of crossword puzzles and do them with a pen and of course make my grocery lists with a pen. I really should go back to my journal, but since most of the time it is just complaints, I try to avoid writing.

As you say yes still the use of a pen is being used and just I dream Technology may give a birth to some new item instead of a pen..let us see...

I gives me great pleasure to hold a pen and put my handwriting on paper. I love writing and sometimes I get a craving for it, like I just want to WRITE. Then I would write anything. Maybe a diary. I just love putting my thoughts down on paper. And sometimes I crave writing with a pencil too, it has a totally different feeling.
I have this habit that if I am holding a pen, I will scribble my name on any surface that I can find, over and over again. When I am on the phone and I start to note something down, you will find after a few minutes that that paper is surrounded by my name everywhere.

It is true that the advancement of technology we have today does reduce the need of using pen or pencil to write. Most of the writing work can be typed using various softwares and programs that computer has. Fortunately, there are still several instances that we may get to use pen and write. Exams for instance, we still uses pen and papers sitting in classroom to answer the questions. Of course some education institutions gradually replaces it with online lectures, quizzes and exams. It is very apparent that technology has a profound influence on our life. Whether it is good or bad will have to depend on how we adapt such technologies in our life.

I guess younger people don't experience this YET. Since in school they always have to write something to practice writing. However, when they turn high school or college I guess this is already a problem, since parents usually allows kids to use gadgets like cellphones, tablet, and laptop. Also, paper notebooks are seldomly used nowadays during class.
I don't know if it is only due to habit, but as for me I still am comfortable using pen and paper. For me I tend to memorize what i'm writing that way unlike when i just type it away on my laptop.

I'm an amateur article writer. There are various ways to write an article. I can paraphrase, do drafts or outlines first. But my favorite way of writing is write first on a pen and paper, because it makes me more intuitive regarding my article writing.

I make it a point to write now and then when I feel like it to keep up my penmanship. I also like typing with all my fingers because I am used to it. I’ve not learned to use two fingers or thumbs and don’t think I want to learn. If someone gave me a device with a tiny keyboard for free to use I would use it for reading etc. but not for writing.
