Its been few weeks now since the coast guard ships return to port because of the bad weather and did not return to Panatag shoal and right now Chinese ships are in Panatag without any resistance from Philippines government.
I'm hoping that we going to send back our ship in their as for 400 years we are continuously occupy that shoal. We even have light house in their.
But I guess its been destroyed already.

It is better to let UN handle the issue diplomatically, instead of war ship. There is no point to send naval vessel to this disputed island to raise tension again, after all, China has a much bigger and better equip naval fleet than Philippine; it is foolish to go on collision course with them in South China Sea, only cool head can prevail in this international dispute. Dealing with communist China over island dispute, Philippine government should enlist helps from other ASEAN members military forces instead of going alone over China bellicose displayed of military muscle.

It is not the people of China do not see the truth, or want to agree with the communist party is doing, they are powerless to go against their totalitarian regime and People liberation army, China doesn't has a governmnet, it only has regime make up by communist party officials. Trust me, majority of Chinese people had no love relationship with the present regime governing China that systematically stripped them of liberty and individual rights. The nature of Communism ideologue is banditry and expansionism, it is not even a secret anymore.

I strongly pity the people of china for having such a controlled government. if they see the truth they should would disagree of what the government is doing. Philippines is definitely a friendly and not an agressive nation, unfortunately China is being aggressive here and I hope the UN will find a way to restore the rift relations between China and the Philippines. am so sadden by this,

UN? under the UN rules they can only intervene if two parties agree for UN mediation. But since China does not want UN mediation then its useless to us UN as a shield. Because UN will not going to do anything unless theirs a war that affect civilian but since the island are inhabitant then that means theirs no civilian in their.

And why not? The place is within our economic zone, so it's the duty of our coast guard to be there! to protect and defend what is Philippine territorial waters, think China would do the same if somebody or some entity tried to encroach over her sovereignty or within her territorial boundary as stipulated in the UNCLOS which BTW she is a signatory

I do agree. But since China is so greedy I don't think they will going to recognize the law that they them self sign. They only respect power and money. I guess its time for the Philippines to start building our navy and our airforce also. Increase our military strength to 1 million strong AFP. In this way its not only going to make our country strong its also the mean or ways to give jobs to other filipinos.

We have no choice75 billion usd has now been allocated covering about 138 defense contracts and some had been delivered already to combat both internal and external treats. It's not aimed against the Chinese people ( i have Chinese blood and deal with very good Chinese almost every day) but more on their governments's policy and behavior in Asia, besides our upgrade is long overdue due to corruption . I think we have a lean but mean armed forces and sometimes it's not really about numbers but quality although I also believe that the reserve force should be increased ( for those of us who took advance and basic ROTC course). Soldiering for me is a profession borne from love of country and not merely economic or a way of getting a job , think it's got more to do with serving one's nation.

I do not know if we can really afford to send some ships there to protect them from the Chinese vessel that frequents there. China has started to really put pressure on this shoals like it was their own. I think we can only do the claim by legitimately claiming it in international courts but militarily we cannot really stand strong with them.

Right now under the UN international court it only accept cases like this if two parties agree for the mediation. But if theirs only one country then its can't give ruling. Also the ruling is not bending. Meaning if one country reject it then UN can't do anything about it.
So in short we have no choice but to go to war for our territory either we like it or not.

I just hope Pnoy did not yet sale the panatag shoal to china lol! well we have to admit the fact that our resistance will not match the china or any other nation but atleast filipinos are courageous and have the spirit to fight. Our only defense is that bomb made in china will fail like cellphone batteries (kidding) but seriously, I hope the Philippine government will invest set aside funds for the rehabilitation and improvement of our own nation rather than lend the money to other nation.

They can't really use the money for other things because it is reserved. Lending the money and having an interest is much better than it going to the pockets of corrupt politicians.

Worse another shoal in kalayaan island has been occupied by china. Its seems china right now is aggressive inserting its dominance in our territory. I guess its time drive them away. We just rely on diplomacy too much that we don't know how to use force.

I don't think there's anything we can do if China wants to send vessels to panatag shoal. We can only protest like a little puppy barking over a large dog. i think the only thing that can prevent that country from sending their ships over there is if there is a storm.

Investing in our military to upgrade its facilities is welcome but I don't think it would be be enough to bring our capability to fight back China or go head to head with that country in an arms race. Way before this Panatag shoal stand off, it was on the news that China would be spending more or less 100 billion US dollars for it's military. So the bullying is really a part of their plan all along. I don't think we have the much money at the moment or even half that amount just for the military given our economic situation. In simple terms, we can't do it alone, ASEAN may be our best chance and of course the western countries who are also threatened by China's fast rising as one of the worlds economic power. Because if it now threatens small countries this early, what would prevent them from bullying everyone in the future?

As I said minimum credibility. Meaning to invest in defensive hardware. We don't need to have at par armed force with China. Just enough to defend our territory. And also defensive hardware like land to air missiles and land to ship missiles that is cheaper and less maintenance cost than buying long range bombers etc.
If we have missiles station in palawan, mindoro and pampanga I'm sure China will have second thoughts of sending their ship in our economic zone.

I do agree. China is just too powerful. But we can also be powerful. If we only try to spend more on our military upgrades right now just to reach minimum credibility to fight back China then I guess we can.
Our first move is to remove all Chinese products that we don't need. Second step is to make Asean a China's product free zone. Meaning Asean countries must not buy or support chinese product. then later on convince the world to stop investing in China.

The government should modernize first the coast guard. Even if they are sent to Panatag shoal, what good will they be if all they ca n do is show up. Being there is different from putting up a stand and backing it up. Kudos to Pnoy for at least trying to modernize the AFP.

The only why that would happen is when all communist who has nothing to do but rally each time theirs some good news from our government to be put to jail. I do believe in freedom of expression and freedom of speech but I also do believe that once you step on others also they you don't have the right for that freedom.

I think I want to blame on the past Administration. if they haven't handed over the scientific research about those islands to china, they would never go aggressive in claiming those islands. the territory is definitely close to palawan and this is not good at all. too bad for the light house put there. they are abusing the situation simply because we are weaker now

Blame all the previous presidents not only the last president.
In time of President Cory Aquino theirs so many coup that I will say she has right not to upgrade AFP because of that. But in time of President FVR. He approved the AFP modernization and sell the lands in Bonifacio. But were is the money now? In term of President Erap. He priorities to suppress rebellion in the south and his stint is cut off because of the people power of the middle come earner.
and the worse case happen in time of Gloria Macapagal arroyo and I don't think we can call her president anymore as its already been proven that she cheated in the election and its FPJ who won. And since President Erap did not resign she never actually did become the president of the Philippines.
