Cleaning The Mess

There is no way to get everything in this house clean, but I did what I could tonight. I still could clean a little more though. I straightened some papers on the computer desk, and I also cleaned the bathroom toilet, sink and floors. I'd done the shower the other day. I wiped the counters off with a soapy sponge and threw away expired coupons or ads we didn't need. I straightened up a little bit in another room as well. The kitchen is still a mess. We need to put some things in canisters after throwing the old out and cleaning them up. I also need to straighten up and get rid of clothes from the table, my clothes. There's really no place to put them, I've been looking at my options with that. We've got to get the counters mostly cleaned off and operational. That will help a great deal when cooking. The fridge situation will mostly stay the same because there just will never really be room for left overs. Even if we got tupperware and the such. I've got more to clean as I think of things I can do. Trying to keep it presentable atleast to myself. One thing I cleaned was a CRAP load of receipts off the top of a t.v. stand (hoarder alert, MY OWN receipts). Any major cleaning you've done?

I completely agree with what you are saying. Cleaning can be frustrating. I recently just found the flylady website. And I have been excited about falling that schedule to help me keep up with the house. But now I'm getting discouraged again because we will have to move in the middle of August or the beginning of September. And I hate packing. It just seems there is never enough time to get everything done. flylady has been helpful for me perhaps you will like it as well. I haven't done any major cleaning yet but I will be shortly. Once I get a lot of things backed I will have to do deep scrubs, sweeping, mopping, etc.

I am looking over the website right now, but not sure how much it will help me. About two years ago (give or take) I had to move back in with family after a split. My brother had already gone to be with the Angels when I moved in, but even after two years they hadn't done anything with his room. I made it worse by bringing my stuff in and trying to clean his out. Then my mother went to be with the angels and we had to clean out her home. I got a lot of her stuff, as did my grandparents. Then my uncle went to be with the angels, but we didn't get much of his stuff. There is still a lot of stuff here that needs to be sorted through. We are a family of hoarders which doesn't help. Heck, I'd have loved to bring all of my mom's stuff home with me, but I have a sister lol, and of course other family members wanted things. I need a plethora of storage bins and about three days of nothing but delving into each nook and cranny and dividing things. I just don't know where to buy storage bins for cheaper. Then my niece and nephew have toys over here, which is GREAT but we are starting to have it cluttered everywhere, and we really have no room for anything. I need to buy them a toy box, I need to buy myself a storage closet... I need, I need, I need... I guess I need to stop ranting about it and do it! Moving has never been all that hard for me, of course now it would be as I have so much more things then I had before.

I've looked at places like walmart, but it's been awhile since I've checked out a dollar store. I need bins that are deep so that I won't have to use so many. I know when it comes to moving long distances you can get a moving company that would load the stuff up and deliver it to you, but I'd hardly trust a place like that... Renting a truck? but then that gets expensive!

Yeah that would be a lot of things to go through. It is hard find cheap storage bins. The best place that I like for grabbing a few storage containers is dollar tree. I think that if I bought a few every month I would have quit a bit. But I haven't done that yet. If there is a lot of things that no one wants or old toys the kids are done with a garage sale could get you some extra money. It is hard to move when you have a lot of things. We don't have a lot of big things to move but it will be hard to move the stuff we have if we have to move to a different state.

I've been keeping up pretty good since the weather got a little cooler. I actually cleaned like a mad woman because I knew the heat wave was coming. The floors weren't that bad but I vacuumed and mopped anyway. Birds love old rice and stuff from canisters. I don't keep leftovers as I don't like them and worry about bacteria. I just keep all scraps in a bag and dump it in the woods as we don't have a compost bin at present which I really miss. I have no carpets so I have to mop the entire house. Try either selling or giving away your cloths for free on Craigslist. Or you could stick seasonal clothes in rubber maid containers that you know you'll wear next winter in the basement. Hope you stuck all the coupons and receipts in the recycling bin!

I hadn't this time, but I had thought about it. It totally slipped my mind that I had a paper bag. In our area we have to use paper bags to keep those types of things in for the recycle people. Though I worry as I believe our county just throws things in the dump and doesn't really recycle them even if they are supposed to be. I have so many clothes and I will wear all of them, I just need to buy containers. Even after that it's wear to stack them! I'm glad that we don't have hard floors everywhere, but I didn't use a mop either, just a big sponge made for cleaning / scrubbing. I put some stuff on the floor, scrubbed it as I went. We don't really have woods here anymore :( They built a mini development behind us. It's great for a quicker way into our neighborhood and close to us, but bad for the environment and the birds. We do have a safe place in the yard for the birds to go to eat though.

Unfortunately, a great percentage of the food we have here gets thrown out becuase we don't have room for it, ants get in it.. etc. The fact is, we do have room for a lot of it. The fridge is way too small now (replaced fridge) and that does hinder some... Have you heard of a site called instructables? they may have a guide to creating your own compost bin you could even use there where you rent.

You sound like an awesome person. I'm glad you give a crap about recycling many don't. We rent but I have to have hard wood floors because I have asthma and have to have a basically dust free house which is a pain. What I meant about the food was, I keep food such as stuff I don't use such as vegetable clippings like the parts of cabbage and cauliflower we don't eat, the fibrous part, (the rotting stuff I flush). I take that stuff to the woods where there are all these rabbits. We always see a white one when we get there, he's so beautiful. What we left the week before is always completely gone. I would get a compost but we live in the city. I hope when we move,(for my husbands job) at the end of the year that I'll be able to get a small compost bin.

I've been perpetually trying to get some cleaning in done around the house. It seems as though I will work to get a certain area clean and then another area will need the attention once again. The struggle continues... Currently I have been working on the main room. My wife and I live in a studio (a pretty spacious one) that has a lot of area in the main room that we need to clean all the time. I had just went through and picked up EVERYTHING that was on the floor in the main living area and vacuumed throughout the floor. I am working on the bathroom next, even though I am constantly working on that because it is one of my biggest things. I actually just bought a new shower curtain that I need to put on and I want to get behind the toilet and clean the wall and the floor back there a little more thoroughly. Next... the kitchen. By then, though, I will probably have to get back at the living room once more.

I don't think we have any spacious studio apartments around here. I went to look at one at a fairly new place, mind you they had two types, but this one was VERY and I mean VERY small. I couldn't have fit myself in after all that I would have had to fit in. One thing I don't like is cleaning something and then having to go back and do it again, hence why sometimes I just give up. The hardest part to get to is behind the toilet! All of the toilets here seem to be in the corner, either against a bath tub or between a sink, or kind of in it's own nook surrounded by walls... Pick up something called "scrub free" it's really good stuff, I used it last night, you just spray and you can see the nasty stuff start running down and then it's just wiping away.

Over the time I had off I actually got my oldest daughters old room cleaned out really good. She had left a ton of stuff that she didn't have room for or didn't want anymore We have both been way too busy to organize the wants/not-wants, sweep, and mop. My youngest daughter is actually wanting that room and although I pretty much knew that my oldest wasn't coming back home, I waited just to see. Anyway..I finally got it finished and felt like I got something accomplished while I was off..lol. Take care.

I am sitting here thinking of what else I can do. One thing is to better organize a pile of things that we walk by atleast a million times a day and people have been known to trip over... Is this the new momma's old room your talking of?

Yes..that's the one. I guess I am just trading rooms around really. She can use the one my youngest used to be in. The furniture in there fits the new baby a little more too.

I know the feeling. Before I moved out here to Nevada it was always hard to keep the house clean (we had started a couple of home improvement projects) and now that I am living in my parent's house I only have one room and I am trying to keep it as clean as possible. I know this weekend my parents will be gone so I will be able to catch up on the quilt I am making as well as cleaning my room. I will also clean my bathroom. If I have time I will clean up the kitchen.

I feel like the whole house here is living in one room. There is clutter and things everywhere, and really it's no one's fault. We do what we can, but it's so difficult. We are a family of hoarders. Some things that are hoarded are because they are our heirlooms, some are just silly. We've got pesky ants to worry about too, and I'm trying my best to keep them at bay! Have a relaxing weekend with your parents gone. Hope you can do a little cleaning then and enjoy making that quilt!

I have slowly been trying to get cleaning done, piece by piece cleaning my room. Its good to start and even work on it slowly. I find it you just go on a ranpage you tend to thrown items out that you need. Its harder especially if you live with other people.

I have things strewn about everywhere, but only because I've inherited a lot of things. A lot of the things I have, I don't even know where they are. I also know that their are things my grandmother has gotten for me from my mom's house that I don't even know about. Plus, my grandmother will give me some things of hers when I move out... lol yeah a LOT of stuff. you think with five bedrooms we'd have the room.....
