Here is something I hadn't heard of before today. It brought tears to my eyes and made me proud, inspired me and lifted my heart. Apparently this wasn't important enough to ever make the news feeds or a Sunday human interest show but I think everyone should know about these wonderful people. This is about the rescue of 500,000 people off the island of Manhattan on 9/11/2001. I think you'll be glad you watched it.

When the American people need to come together, to pull together, they do it.
We still can, and we will.

It would be easier to pull together is they would publicize short films like this that show our true character. In all the coverage in the past ten years, I've never seen any mention of this heroic boat lift.
Think what the nation would be like if the media showed things like this. If they would devote even two minutes of their evening broadcast to things like this the nation's collective mood would be soaring and I think a lot of things would improve.

I put the Harbinger on my reading list, I'm on the waiting list at my library. It certainly sounds like an interesting read that will be scary, as well. But the more we know, the less we are surprised. I don't really like surprises! Have you read it?

I remember right after 9/11, there was not Democrat or Republican in America, there were AMERICANS in America. The president's approval was in the high 90 percentile. People pulled together, spoke to one another, smiled at one another.
Then the media began their campaign to bring Bush down, people began to be polarized about security and what should be done about Iraq, Afghanistan, and it all went down hill.
I keep telling folks that if the LEFTISTS were not so intent on dragging us into socialism perhaps we could compromise and have some cooperation, get things done. But when they want things done that are so terrible for the country, you just can't let it be.
It makes you wonder, does it not? Have you read The Harbinger?

It wouldn't play beyond the first 45 seconds but I get the gist. Mankind is quite capable of some amazing and compassionate actions. Well played those that contributed to the rescue of all those people. Here's a lovely video in return. I challenge you not to be a little teary by the end. Starts a little slow but picks up very quickly. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzkEwPZWALA

That was amazing, P1key! I think maybe I would swear off my prohibition on romance for a guy like that. I'll bet they'll have a lot of fun and laughter in their life together! Yes, I teared up but at least it was for a happy reason.
Sorry the boat lift wouldn't play for you. They got all those people off in 9 hours. The second largest boat lift back in WWII took about a week to move half that many. Ordinary people with boats answered the coast guard's call within minutes and everyone helped each other. It was a day as proud and inspiring as it was tragic. I wish we could retrieve and live the cooperation, love and spirit of that day.

Thank you for trying to respond to my other discussion. I have been waiting for peoples' ideas but that might be why there have been no responses, something is malfunctioning!
The video shows the day that the towers were destroyed in New York and half a million people were stranded on the island of Manhattan. The coast guard didn't have enough boat to evacuate them and all the bridges were closed. Within 20 minutes of putting out a radio call for help, hundreds of private boats showed up, big and small, to get those people off the island. Everyone helped each other and in just 9 hours all those people were rescued thanks to private citizens working together in a time of need. It is inspiring to me and I wish we could have that spirit of togetherness on a daily basis. I hoped to spread some pride in my countrymen by sharing that video since so many people are saying my country is so bad right now.
Have a great day and thanks for trying to participate!

Thank you for describing what happened in the video for me.What a touching scene!Where help was arriving from all quarters.I think No one can watch the video and not be moved. The difficulties have created a spirit of togetherness.
My response to your discussion mentioned above made as follows :
Here,in feudal society, people should avoid deceased emperor or head of a family 's names as taboo and couldn't call them by their names.Perhaps their replacing God with G-d is prompted by fear of God.

Personally there have never been enough appreciation and Thank You's except from the people who were rescued and their families. No one ever chooses to acknowledge the real heroes out there, and always just want to blame everyone instead of wanting to do something more to improve things.

You're right. I think if we had better media outlets that truly served the people we would see things like this and become a grateful nation. Have you ever noticed how much gratitude improves your life? You get a whole new outlook on things and you're happier. What a difference it would make if we were shown things like this instead of a constant diet of violence, political dirty tricks, bad news and disasters.

Yes I have seen this video before and it made me cry when I did. Those people were so kind to stop and help the people stranded. It was touching and showed how humanity can work together and help each other when it is necessary. I wish it were that way all of the time. Working together for the greater good.
