Direct TV and Viacom need to work out their problems.

Yesterday while my daughter was watching the TV we noticed this message streaming across the bottom of the screen telling us that unless Direct TV and Viacom come to an agreement they would be dropping 25 plus Viacom channels from the Direct TV line up. I could care less my self but as Viacom owns Nickelodeon and MTV and many other channels that my family watches we were rather upset by this. In all my time of having Direct TV this has never actually happened they always come to a deal in the last minutes however that is not the case this time. When my daughter woke up the first thing she did was turn the TV to Nickelodeon and was so mad when it was no longer there. It seems that they were not able to come to an agreement after all. Now Viacom says that the increase that they are asking for is just pennies a day and that it will not increase our bill. My question to them is do they no how to do basic math? If they add pennies to our bill every day then yes its going to increase our bill not by much but it will increase just the same. Direct TV says that Viacom is asking for an additional 1 Billion to continue broadcasting those channels. Well the more I thought about it the more I really am upset with Viacom. They already get paid a huge amount for their services as it is and are they so greedy that they want to increase it even more? Now I am not sure who to be upset with regarding this, either Viacom for being so greedy or at Direct TV for not wanting to pay more. Either way I am not getting what I agreed to when I signed up, and I am still paying the same amount as I was for all the channels that I no longer get. Has this ever happened to you? What did you do and what was the company's response? Do they care or are you just another number to them? I cant cancel my subscription and get a new service as I have a 2 year contract with them so my hands are tied as far as that goes any ideas?

I would certainly call, as your paying for channels that you don't have now. I'm hoping lots of people call, as the only way to make a difference is to vocally get the word out that people need to take action. I don't think there is anything wrong with watching an hour of television on the Nick Channel. I certainly had a lot to say when PBS was removed from this area. My daughter would watch Reading Rainbow and Sesame Street. Television doesn't rot the brain, if you limit the television watching. Sadly, some parents use their televisions as child sitters all day and I do have a problem with children getting no exercise.

Well for us we bike on a daily basis walk the dog to the dog park and take the oppurtunity to spend time together as a family doing out side things mainly getting active. I am really just tempted to just throw it all in and get rid of it all. They make me so angry with their lack of customer support they really don't care about you as long as they get their money every month. Such a sad state of affairs if you ask me.

Direct TV just opened Disney channel for the kids, and encore for the adults so at least they are trying.

I would read my contract and see if there isn't some way you can get out of your contract. But, if you do, you will have to have another company in mind or lose out on cable for awhile until you do. They have that streamer on the bottom of the channels that will be affected by this change. I am so very glad I have digital cable through Cable One and I love it! Infact I bundle-- have cable, internet and phone through the same company! Good luck to you.

I wish we had a few choices our cable tv choice is very limited. I am bundled as well and that is why I cant change services or I would I think. I have read my contract and it seems that I am kinda stuck as there is no provision regarding them loosing channels. How ever I do pay for the 120 channel pack and right now I am not getting the full 120 channels so that may be something that I can use to have them at least credit my bill if not give me some premium channels for a few months as well? I guess I will be calling them after all. Look out she has a phone and knows how to use it lol.

Good for you! And this time until the contract is up might be a good time to research other companies, get feed back from other customers, etc.

I had Direct TV until 4 years ago when I removed it from our home. The loss of these shows will improve your daughters attitudes, homeworek ethics, you name it. Regular channels from an antannae are sufficient to get the news. Radio can play your favorite music. What happened, as the prices rised, it became a prison to have those services. You just got ripped off for what you paid for in advance. That is what would piss me off. Glad I don't miss any of that and that my TV reception is FREE like it should be.

I know that watching TV rots the mind as my mother used to say lol however my daughter watches very little TV and there are just a handful of shows that she watches other wise she is out playing in the neighborhood with all her friends. Im just upset that once again I am trapped with no way out unless I break my contract and if I do that they will charge me way more than if I just keep the service. As for her attitudes, homework ethics and what not, my daughter is a good student and really does not give me much trouble at all I am truly blessed with her she is like the perfect kid and I am not just saying that cause she is my daughter. For her TV is a prize and she does not get to watch it till her chores are done first. I hope they get it figured out as I hate to have to call and complain and they really hate to hear from me. I think they have my name and picture on there wall with the words OMG not her again lol.
