My state of Idaho now has more fires than any other state in the nation. One just broke out up in Donnelly which is up in the mountains by my favorite Summer haunt. Most of them are over by Twin Falls and in the lower part of the state but today the news said we have one up in Donnelly and even a couple in the foothills right here in Boise. I live just down the road from the foothills. We have a horn that will sound if things get out of hand. But my thoughts go out to the fire fighters. These poor people. I mean I was out in it for about three hours today and I thought I was going to die.(Thank the Gods for car airconditioning.) Can you imagine being in all that equipment that have to wear and fighting fires all day? Not this kid!And they come from all over the US ever Summer. What I guess I am getting at is this: If you pray pray for these heros. Out there everyday fighting these darned fires. They are trained to know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and dehydration ofcourse but it must be awful. If you have had an experience or know someone who is one please share your story with us. Your thoughts about fire fighters.

On the 19th of this month I will be camping near Avery on the ST.Joe(noth Idaho). There is a ridge above where we camp(you can see it across the river of this most pristine campgrounds 27 miles north east of St. Marys)where 19 firefighters lost thier lives fighting a wild fire there many many years ago.
I pray for these heros because they truely are fighting the devil in hell. May God be with them, bless them, protect them and may the forces of good prevail against these fires. Also may they see some cooler weather.

Fire fighters are surely unsung heroes. They do save lives by risking their own. I am thankful there are fire fighters. What if there were none? Fires are here and there especially during summertime. Who could ever help but these firefighters. I don't really know what kind of training they do go through but one thing I am really sure about is that almost all of them if not all are really heroes in their own right.

This year has been extremely bad all over for them. Due to the dryer than normal and extremely warm temperatures, this has left everything everywhere a lot dryer to the point where when even a small fire starts it becomes huge just because there is nothing there to help keep it small. It is putting a toll on people, and firemen and somehow things have got to change. My thoughts and Prayers continue to be with everyone being affected.

hi dear celticeagle, I just admire firefighters where ever they work. They are willing to risk their own lives to save others lives and now with all these fires also try their best to save nature.
Hope they soon get these fires under control, it must be awful to work so hard and not see real progress.

that is awful my friend, it is so sad, yes I pray for everyone, it is so hard to live in this day and age and to have floods and fires on top of it is just horrible. I pray for the people of your state and for people all over the world experiencing these hardships and yes I pray for the brave people who are out their fighting fires, floods, and every other kind of disaster.

I saw movies particularly on your fire fighters fighting forest fires... it is amazing how much sacrifice they do plus the fact that that is like one of the most dangerous jobs... kudos to them for being brave.

It sounds pretty desperate where you are.All that lovely countryside being destroyed and all those people losing their homes.Firefighters are indeed hero's going out into all that smoke and having the presence of mind to keep fire fighting in those awful conditions. We have had some pretty bad fires in some areas of our country but nothing on the scale you have.Seeing it on the tv just leaves me feeling for you.If that horn goes off you get out of there.Get a bag ready with favourite photo's,insurance forms, bank account details money ect.Take care.

Oh yes thoughts are always out for those dealing with the wildfires. I know every summer there is that fear when the heat starts to rise and stay up. My mother in law lives in Wisconsin and I know she has been telling us they have been without rain for about a month now and that they have been warning people about burning and also banned fireworks for the holiday hoping to stay safe and eliminate any fires. I couldn't imagine being a firefighter and risking your life in that heat to help save others. I hate the heat and could only imagine what it must feel like carrying around all that extra gear as well. All you can say is absolutely a big thanks to not only firefighter but to all men and women who put their lives on the line to save others!

hi celtic, I don't have a fire story, neither have I ever
been close to anyone who has every been in a fire but I do
agree with you about your firemen who has to fight the fires
regardless of the weather, summer or winter...yes they are
trained professionals but they put their lives on the line so
so many times...We do need to send prayers for them and also
the people who are experiencing these horrible fires....

Where a sane person would run away, a firefighter runs in and says "I can help!" We could never pay them enough. Second to them are the volunteers who provide support away from the fire lines, by providing food, water, first aid and a place to unwind for a while. Brave people.

All I know about them is they are amazing. I was watching this show last night about Smoke Hunters and was astounded. They parachute into territory that is rarely visited and prevent forest fires by assessing the smoke! They have no idea what they are parachuting into or how volatile the fire is. Well..experience is key to assessing but still. How many times must a man jump into a fire to know? Scary.

OH my goodness, that is horrible celticeage. I will pray for the firefighters and for you and everyone around those fires. I think the firefighters do the most amazing job, they are so underpaid for what they do. Baseball players and movie stars get paid so much more than they do and it isn't right. They risk their lives and have to breathe in all that very very nasty air, risk getting burned, and so forth. Those fires are so awful, I will pray for everyone that they become under control and that you all stay safe. I would be panicking about now if those fires were that close. God Bless.

It certainly is horrible. I am sure they will appreciate your prayers. Our sky is just brown out from the smoke. We have about eight fires now.
