it looks like the campaign to win the second straight nba championship is in full swing for the miami heat franchise.
no doubt about it, these are two big additions to the heat team who still have their core of superstars, lebron, wade, and bosh, intact. i really like the move of the heat here. it shows the team isn't resting on its laurels after winning the championship last season. both allen and lewis bring their experience and versatility to this heat team. they can create shots on their own or they can stay in one corner and wait for the kick-out pass from a driving lebron or wade and spot up for a jumper or three-ball. both allen and lewis have battled against this same heat team before. both have played for seattle supersonics when they were teammates from 2003 up to 2007. both have the offense to further challenge the opposing team's defense.
i don't see both allen and lewis playing together at the same time. neither do i see allen playing as a starter for this heat team. i think both allen and lewis can come off the bench and substitute for either lebron or wade and bring instant offense for the team. they might be giving something up on defense as they are a step slower but over-all i think what positives allen and lewis brings far outweigh the negatives. also like the fact that allen is taking 3 million less to go to a team with the best chance of winning a ring. read about the 'ill feelings' allen has for boston. nothing has been proven yet, guess we have to wait until miami's first game at boston.
no doubt about it, these additions add quality talent and experience in this miami heat team. i'm really looking forward to getting my ray allen all-black miami heat jersey. lol!
so my fellow mylotters, what do you think of this signing for the miami heat? how do you think it helps the heat retain their championship. do you see any downside to this pair of signings? how do you think this signings rank in the free agent signings we've seen so far this off season? i would personally rank this as the best one so far.
feel free to chime in my fellow mylotters.
cheers and happy mylotting!!!

The heat will probably play wade as point guard or james as point forward if this is their 4th quarter line up. With Lewis, Bosh, Wade, James, and Allen, they are a small team. Will Bosh play center? How about when they face the lakers with Bynum? Or Howard?
With this lineup there will be a lot of three pointers and isolation plays with Lebron/Wade on top. Lewis and Allen are lethal from the outside. I also just observed that Allen and Lewis were indeed teammates before playing in Seattle.

Bosh can handle the center spot and during the playoffs when he manned the center, the heat were much stronger. He can stretch out defenses with his shooting, and it keeps big men like Howard and Bynum out of the paint so that Lebron/Wade can do their thing. so that 5 man 4th quarter line up sounds effective to me.

In my opinion, the Miami Heat just got lucky to have breezed the Eastern Conference against weaker teams. Also, they got lucky dueling with the Thunder who doesn't have big men who are aggressive in the offensive end. If Miami Heat will face a post up center or a big man scorer from another team, they will surely have a hard time with that. Yes, I do believe that Bosh is soft and is better to man the power forward slot rather than the center. They will surely have a difficult time handling and containing the likes of Bynum and Howard. I see a repeat if they can avoid such big men but I see no chance of a repeat if they face such post up teams.

How about in the defensive end? Will Bosh be able to handle Bynum/Howard?

The addition of perimeter players would help spread the floor for Wade and Lebron to attack the lane however at their age would Allen and Lewis be still productive? If the Lakers add more pieces then I believe it would be not be a given to see Lebron raise a second Larry O Brian trophy.

Yeah, it is an improvement on the offensive end. But defensively, I think it isn't. Also, the Miami Heat should have addressed the issue of their big men. Next to Bosh, they really don't have a capable big man to hold the paint. And even Bosh, I think, isn't good at the defensive end. Miami Heat will have a hard time against the likes of the Lakers, San Antonio or any team with Howard in. They just got lucky gunning in with the Thunder in the finals who have only Kendrick Perkins and Ibaka at front who are defensive minded and not much offense in them. I cheer for the Lakers as they have gotten their man at the point.

hi beaver.
first off, welcome to mylot. make sure to abide by the rules and regulations of the site at all times. also, for any questions or clarifications, feel free to ask the mylot admin or the more tenured members of the site. the mylot community is a helpful lot!
back to the topic, age won't be much of an issue. these are professional who are conditioned well. allen coming off an injury is might be a concern but remember that these two, allen and lewis, won't be asked to carry the load for this miami heat team. at the most, they'll be coming off the bench and play limited minutes to give lebron, wade, battier, and the other small guards for miami. maybe they'll start a some games but i doubt that they'll be asked to do a lot in their new roles with miami.
@ agent gulaman, i'll post my response to you in your reply below.
thanks for participating mates!!!

Hi! Thanks for the warm welcome. You are correct Their roles would be lesser but the impact of their addition would be like the addition of Gary Payton and Karl Malone with the Lakers years back. People were penciling the Lakers as the shoe in champion however, injuries and I do believe age/conditioning were the obstacles. I am not saying that the two would not help but I feel that the impact would not be as big as people expect.

The acquisition of Allen and Lewis is good for the team since they are pure shooters and it will give Lebron, DWade and Bosh many options to kick-out when it's difficult for them to shoot. For Allen, the chances of him getting a 3-point shot will be higher because he don't need to settle for many picks just to land a shot. The Big 3 will draw in crowd when they attack the basket and eventually Allen just need to stand on a spot and after the kickout, easy shot will then be taken just like what happened during 2012 NBA finals.
The downside that I see in this development is that both players are not young anymore and age really does matter in this sport. Also, I don't know how the coaching staff rotates his shooters including Battier, Miller and Jones.
Overall, I think it's great addition but if I were the President, I'd rather take at least 1 Center.

I like the move. Pat Riley is known around the league as one of the smartest executives in the nba. Ray Allen needs to gets his ankles and feet together to maximize his presence coming off the bench. Both rashard lewis and allen can play the two and three positions. The heat are in great position to defend their title. I believe that teams around the league are bulkin up to go pound for pound with the Heat.

hello sinnedsejatnom and polocratic.
will chime in about what you wrote next time but i'd like to point out what sinnedsejatnom wrote. its something that i wasn't able to include in what i wrote in in my discussion. i think the miami heat team are loaded with enough scorers in all the other positions except the center and point guards positions. i like how norris cole developed last season but i feel he isn't the point guard that the miami heat needs. mario chalmers is still more of a scorer rather than a facilitator which this team needs. yes, james can play the point guard position and dish out the assists before looking for his own shots but it will still be great if the heat gets a true point guard. i'm thinking of a steve nash/jason kidd kind of point guard. anyway, doubt if they get a point guard in that mold but who knows? as for the center spot, their only legit center is joel anthony which isn't much really. they have ron turiaf but he is more of a power forward. chris bosh, played big in the play-offs but he needs to put up consistent numbers of 20 points and 10 rebounds in my book day in day out to be a legit big man threat for the heat. otherwise, he is a softie in my eyes. if the heat team get a center like a gortat or even a brook lopez, that they can add to their current line-up, then for sure this team will be able to win multiple championships.
thanks for participating and happy mylotting!!!

ok here goes...
@ sinnedsejatnom, why'd you write your name backwards? lol!
anyway, good point you got there. totally agree with you that the heat needs a legit center to complete their team. they don't need a scoring center. what they need is a big man who will guard the shaded area, box out, and get rebounds. i mentioned brook lopez and gortat in what i wrote above. perhaps even a chris kamanor a brendan haywood would do. i don't think playing time will be an issue. the players are all professionals and from what i've read, every one accepted not only a lower pay but also a lesser role for the benefit of the team. about the ages of ray allen and rashard lewis, they wouldn't be asked to play too many minutes in a game so i think this won't be an issue.
@ polocratic10, first off, welcome to mylot. i'm sure you will enjoy your stay here as long as you stick by the rules and regulations of the site. for any questions or clarifications, feel free to contact the site admin or even get in touch with the more tenured members of the site. ii agree with what you wrote about pat riley being one of the best executives of in the league right now. i think one reason all these players are with the heat right now is because of pat riley.
thanks for participating and may both of you have a great day of mylotting ahead.

Anyway, I think Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis's arrival will increase the power of Miami Heat. I see NBA match short time without chance to see their glorious era in Seattle SuperSonics, so I look forward to see that in the coming season.
Let's do not care why Allen leave Boston Celitics turn to Miami Heat, is it concenred with he and Rondo discord rumors, etc., pay all attention to the match.
At last, I hope Miami Heat's second championship coming soon.

hi there cmy1004f.
agree with your point cmy, i do think that allen and lewis' addition to the miami heat will help the team win a second championship this season.
as for the locker room issues in the boston celtics, i think it has been discussed in length already. can't wait for the boston-miami game this season. it should be a good one!!!
cheers and thanks for participating.
happy mylotting!!!

I agree that the signing of Ray Allen would help boost Miami's chances of repeating next season. I dont know about Rashard Lewis though, I mean i know him and he was a good player overall but i just dont know if he is still good. He does bring size and some 3 point shooting but I just dont know. I am confident though with Ray-Ray. that guy is a conditioning beast and will come back in shape. His 3-point shooting will never fade away so this is a good choice by the heat. The only thing that scares me though is that other teams are getting better too. with brooklyn, both la, okc getting experience, there are still so much teams ready to take the championship. I just hope that the Heat still have much firepower in them, i mean Wade wont get any younger too. but i will still root for them. GO HEAT! GO WADE!

agreed!
plus, all teams are adding what they perceive as pieces they need to win a championship this season. except for those teams in full tank mode this early. also teams who are in the rebuilding process. these teams will most likely give up players in their roster to clear cap space or acquire future draft picks.
thanks for participating and happy mylotting!!!

Yes, those two shooters will immensely help the Miami Heat offense. A big improvement will be felt with the offensive game of the team. They can have a good option when their slashers attack the basket. However, I still feel that shooters are best utilized when you have a post game. So I think Lebron James should harness a post up game and Chris Bosh start back on doing post moves in the paint. But on drawback, I feel there is no significant change in the team defensively. Defense wins championship and I don't think that the additions are not known as good defenders so there is not much improvement on that side.

hi agent gulaman!
how have you been man? hope you're doing fine.
good points you raised here man. totally agree that both allen and lewis bring an additional offensive punch to the miami heat. you are correct that, their inclusion in the line-up will stretch the defense and this will make it easier for miami to score inside. i agree that miami lacks the post-up threat. bosh hardly plays the paint and lebron, even if guarded by a smaller player, rarely posts. i think the heat one legit big man from repeating as champs.
as for defense, the team has shown that they can play defense if, that's a big IF, they want to. again, a legit big man is needed by the heat team for them to improve their defense especially in the paint. i honestly think that the guards/small forwards of the heat, wade, lebron, battier, cole, and the others play decent defense. plus, people knock out the heat but they play good solid lock down defense.
thanks for participating and happy mylotting!!!

Yeah, you got good points at that. The Miami Heat have great perimeter defenders who can interchangeably guard the point, shooting, and the wing. However, my concern is the defending the paint against low post threats. Good thing that the Miami Heat dueled with the Pacers in which Roy Hibbert is really not that aggressive offensively. If Roy Hibbert tanked them in, Miami will have a difficult time. Good thin Hibbert is soft enough not to pound it inside. Another point will be against the teams with the likes of Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol, Dwight Howard, Dirk Nowitzki and Tim Duncan. These fellows will surely punish the interior defense of the Heat squad. They can scramble in defense, but I doubt if they have the toughness to sustain it all through out the game time. They are athletic at the break so that should be their strength. So I think if they can control the tempo of the game, they can repeat. But it is not always that you can control the tempo of the games especially that you don't have a great point guard who can do so.
Just my two cents in.

the heat really need a legit big man. maybe they can get shaq and barkley back from retirement and both can suit up for them?
lol!
seriously though, not sure who else is there who would sign up with the heat.

almost everyone wants to win a championship. the miami heat has proven that the big trio could win one as they promised. now, two veteran shooters have moved in to join the heat team to bring more maturity and experience in the defending champions. allen and lewis are wily veterans. i would say for allen, this is not a good move because he took less money and joined a rival of his former team. he would be hated in boston. for lewis, he has become a journeyman since his injury. but he can still contribute in points.

hi mensab.
agree with your points except for this one, 'i would say for allen, this is not a good move because he took less money and joined a rival of his former team.', accepting less money to move to the team of defending champions who seems to be a favorite to repeat is a good move in my book. i think ray allen is set financially and at this time, he wants to add another ring to his resume. i think he sees that last year was the only legit shot of the celtics to win another championship hence he made the move. i've also read reports that allen felt slighted with how he was treated by danny ainge and doc rivers. there are also reports that him and rondo aren't seeing eye to eye so that added to allen's reasons for signing up with miami.
anyway, adding another 'villain' to this team of miami certainly ups the ante.
thanks for posting and happy mylotting!!!
