Kobe Says 2012 U.S. Olympic Team could beat the Dream Team: Could they?

This is such a tough one. I watched the Dream Team live in 1992 destroy teams in the Olympics, and I am a kid of that era so those players were just larger than life to me. To me there could be no team like that to me... However, Kobe said in an interview that the 2012 Olympic team could beat the 1992 Dream Team. Charles Barkley said meanwhile that they would win the game by "double digits" and that "besides Kobe, LeBron, and Durant, no one on that team makes the Dream Team". I think the 2012 team would give them a battle, but that 1992 was TOO good. Head-to-head there would be some interesting matchups. But I gotta believe that the Dream Team would be too much for them to contend with. You gotta like that the 2012 team is confident in their abilities and they have to be to succeed. I think out of 100 games the 2012 team would win maybe 10 at the most. Where do you stand?

2012 USA men's basketball team does not have enough big man to beat the original dream team. They are too small to match up against the original dream team.

as long as they believe they could do it,there is really no harm in saying such things becuse we know they have the abilities and the attitude.so if you also believe in their dream let's just hop for it shat it will come true. dreaming and believing in things would really turn out out okey, right?

I think the Dream team could beat the current US olympic team. But if D. Howard, D. Wade, D. Rose and A. Bynum will replace A. Davis, T. Chandler, R. Westbrook and J. Harden, that match-up will be even. That's the dream match-up that we all would like to see.

Comparison between those two teams cannot and should not be made. First off, their times are different. The nature of basketball changes and old times differ from this generation's basketball style. Also, circumstances are not the same. You cannot make an accurate comparison and analysis if there are a lot of variables and factors affecting what you are comparing. Such debate will be eternal without getting much conclusions at the end. Of course, Barkley will push to up his generation's ego, that goes well too with Kobe Bryant. It is an endless debate with no chance of getting who will win because the time frames are different.

Now that I've gotten to see this years team in action, I don't think so. I remember the '92 team and I think they were better.

I doubt it. For one this team ( 2012 ) has a few legitimate big guys. They are comprise of wing players and guards. The 1992 team was a well balanced team. They had big guys and undersize guys like Barkley who play big. Hands down the 1992 Dream team will sweep this present team in a best of 7 series.

I have seen the dream team before and I respect and admire them for what and who they were, but being a Kobe Bryant fan and seeing the abilities and skills of the rest of the team mates, I truly believe they could more than stand a chance, and actually beat the dream team.

If both teams are on their primes, then i would obviously root for the 1992 Dream Team. IMO this 2012 olympic team is much weaker on paper, they lost great players due to injury (wade, rose, howard, bosh, billups, griffin) but still, the 1992 dream team is not named DREAM TEAM for nothing! and I agree with Chuck saying that besides Kobe, Lebron and Durant no one would even make that dream team. In terms of athleticism, 2012 team is good but im not underestimating the 1992 dream team, but in terms of overall greatness, clutch ability, and HEART, 1992 dream team dominates them hands down. the dream team would win, but this is just an assumption as both teams are great in their own right in their own generation and time.

yes, i believe at Kobe Bryant's claim that the current US Olympic team will beat the 1992 Dream Team. with common sense, the Dream Team had their basketball strengths and stamina twenty (20), yep twenty, years ago and most of them are already at their 40's and 50's today, 2012. but i believe that the Dream Team is the best of the best and can not be compared to any US Olympic team. i can conclude that the Lakers superstar made those comments just because of bitterness, from His Airness. sorry Kobe Bryant fans.

i strongly will prefer the dream team to this present one. However, am not taking anything away from this present squad.
