I have alot of junk on my laptop that i want to get rid of. I have went to control panel and uninstall programs but it is taking hours upon hours to do. So would setting back to an earlier setting help? another reason why i dont want to mess with manually uninstalling programs is that i am afraid i will uninstall something important on accident and i dont want that either. If someone can help me that would be awesome!!! Thank you!!

You can perform a 'System Restore'. So that you can restore your system to an earlier date.
The option should be available under "Programs == Accessories == System Tools == System Restore".

thank you very much. This was very helpful. Is this easier them deleting everything manually?

That should be easier, but if you have installed some useful applications alongwith the junks you mentioned, they too will be deleted. So, think before you restore. Otherwise, it's wise to uninstall junks one by one.

The only advice I can give you is to consider all possibilities before doing a system restore. If you ca delete the junk that you want but still keep your recent files, I’d say go for the cleaning utilities rather than doing it by system restore. If you do system restore without backing up your recent files, those will be deleted also.

For me, I would definitely choose manual uninstalling over system restore because by this option I would be able to select programs I am sure to delete while in system restore there might be programs I need that wasn't installed previously. If you are afraid of uninstalling the wrong application or software then just choose those that you are sure about. After uninstalling all the programs you believe you do not need, you can now try out other programs installed and see if you need them, and if you think you don't then simply uninstall them. It does take long but it is well worth it. I would also suggest using the software CCleaner. Good luck!

Though anything is possible with computers, I have never had a problem with uninstalling programs. If we can install them we can easily uninstall them.
You will however sometimes get a halt in the process with a message that asks you if you want to also keep a particular file. I suggest keeping any files that pop up like that because they are usually very small anyway and some are what are referred to as shared files. It is just good policy to keep them.
Other than that uninstalling programs goes very well. They suggest to turn off non nessassay programs when doing maintenance. If after an uninstall something is left behind like an icon on the desktop just toss into the garbage/recycle bin. Done.
