Yesterday at noon it was literallyboiling outside. I waited for a half hour in the heat for the access bus. When I arrived I actually
felt ill. Now all I was going to see the doctor for was a diabetic check up and then I arrive dripping wet, panting, sick to my tummy
and they rush to get me some water. Once I cooled off I was okay.
blood sugar high, blood pressure high, pulse too high and temp elevated.
the doctor looked at me." you just got over heated." He had moved from their old building to new modern office and also are now on the computer system. He entered all my meds on the computer no problem but he tried to send blood-work to quest lab via computer
and make out prescription for some cream for my leg. The computer refused to let him do that.He had two people try to help him, finally he had to go back to paper and write me a prescription and give my blood work on paper also. they send a bus for me while I was still in his office so I had the office girl phone access and send another bus for me only it was a swanky limo cab,.I got home at three and drank water like it was going to be turned off.I was so thirsty.
Your take mylotters, just overheated or what.,feel fine today. and to top it off yesterday one little rubber foot came off my walker making it feel like a car thats lost on wheel, all wobbly .I managed to get it screwed on again.feel great today though.

It worries me that it is so difficult for you to see a doctor. You are up in years with a week constitution, however you have to spend half an hounr waiting for the bus in the heat.Happily, the kind-hearted doctor sent a bus for you when you returned home.By the way,How far is the doctor's office from where you live in?

hi chang well my son does not understand why I stick with the drl IO have had for 15 years so I do have to travel ten miles to see him but I am really strong for a diabetic but the heat was unusual as we had only had cool days then wham. My son thinks I should get a new doctor in this area but the access bus uses the freeway and I am never late for an apt. but rest assured if I have
to go on a hot day I will sit inside where he can see me instead'of out in the heat.and take a bottle of water with me
too.

Oh! I have just found another typo,I should have written "a weak constitution" rather than "a week constitution".
Ten miles away from where you live in,It is too far for your age.It is better for you to go with someone.

I felt dizzy and nauceated when I was out yesterday. I had to go out in the heat (mid to high 90's)Tuesday and Wedsnesday. I am glad I took my car to Chevron so the guy would check my poor ole cars vitals. It needed water and if I had gotten gas at the cheaper place down the street I could have had a problem. I hope you will be careful in this heat. Drink plenty of water too! My daughter had her follow up visit with the doctor after going to the ER Sunday for this terrible stomache thing she has been having. She is on two anti-biotics. Well, that night I got the same symptoms and was sick all night Sunday, Monday and am just now (Thursday)feeling better. Ugh! So whatever they thought she had was only a virus. They thought she was having a reoccurence of enflamation of the pollups she has in her colon. Nice, huh? Ooh, swanky limo cab, huh? Nice. About time you got to ride in style. Just overheated my dear. Keep hydrated and it may help. Be sure to eat alittle something before you go out in it too. Take care.

hi suzzy oh I guess god looked down saw I was really feeling awful so sent a nice comfy cab. the first one got there while m y poor doctor was trying to send blood work via computer to quest labs
and send a prescription to Gold crest.it would not oblige him so he called a worker, the worker laughed and said doc use paper for
now.but my doctor is not a quitter so he tried again and again it
would not go through so he called a woman who worked there. she came in looked at it, shrugged, said use paper and left. so he smiled and said sorry ,its quicker this way anyway and wrote me a prescription and the blood work for quest labs. meanwhile the bus was due to pick me up at 2;30 and i was nine minutes late so the id-jut did mot wait for me.
so the office girl called Access bus and told me
that a bus would be there in ten. minutes. wow I saw that limo cab and until I saw the Octa logo was not sure it was for me. the driver helped me over the little graved insets with my walk and helped m e with my seat belt. nice to be treated like a queen. lol for 5 dollars and forty cents round trip its cheaper than a cab and it takes me to my front door of Gold crest and to the front door of my doctors office. really nic e and all the drivers are so
helpful.

Oh, Patsie - they don't have a protected area for you to wait? I'm so sorry. That's dangerous for anyone, but particularly the elderly and ill. I have been overheated to the point where I shut down - I literally couldn't continue and had to lie down and put an ice pack on my head. There was no doctor available, but I'm sure that if there had been one, he'd have found that my body temp and blood pressure were elevated. Stay safe out there, PH!!

hi jerzygirl oh I could have sat in the vistors lounge but the thih g is the access drivers are told the clients must be w aiting where the driver can see them and on ly give the clients five minute
waiting time so even if you are in the lo unge and see the bus]
pulo up if you do not get out there in his or her sight in five
minutes they will leave..this is not really fair seeing a lot of us
cannot move quite that fast.I was not ill to start with as this dr visit was only a diabetic checkup where I bring in my 3 months of blood sugars and he goes over it. but sure was when I got there. lol after this I will stand inside so he can see me, and also h ave a bottle of water with me.

When you are waiting for the access bus are you able to stay inside the home facility? Honestly they should make it where you can sit in say a lobby so you won't be so hot! I'm glad you are feeling better, I think it must have been you just getting overheated.
Do you have a knapsack or something you can put a bottle of cold water in when you go out? The summer is just a scorcher!

hi SomeCowGirl the access bus people want us out waiting as they can leave after five minutes if they do not see us. I had sat in the shade for awhile on the narrow brick border of a planter but that was pretty uncomfortable. That was the first time this summer I had spent any time in the sun wow. yes I should have had a bottle of water with me,now today its cooler again overcast with light sun
breaking through and not so hot. I do feel much better so cou ld not have been a heat stroked. thank Goodness. and when they moved into a new building they started anew with a ton of paperwork grrrrrrr.

The intense heat and humidity can really do damage to a person. One must keep drinking plenty of fluids and take breaks as well, especially if you are doing any type of activity that causes you to sweat. People with health conditions need to be aware that they are more at risk for heat exhaustion. Glad you are better today.

I see many have mentioned about drinking plenty of water, but I have a tip from a member I hope you can use next time. Freeze a bottle of water to take with you to place behind your neck, as well as a bottle for drinking. Because out van has no A/C and only the driver window will roll down, we had a graduation party to go to and the drive was just over an hour. So that is what I did to keep cool during the long drive.

hi bunnybon and carm good idea about the frozen water. the mail carrier was wearing an Aussie hat yesterday and he was feeling
the heat too.while i sat baking across the street an asphalt
company was workng pouring new asphalt on the parking lot of an apartment complex. those guys looked so hot.
I burst into a flood of sweat in the doctor;s officer and of course all my vitals were too high. the doctor said it was because I was'overheated.last night I left the air conditioner on til about 11p m as I was feeling a bit too warm yet. the doctor is now on computers and is having a time using it,he had to revert to writing on paper my blood work and my prescripton too. said the old ways were faster. poor guy. hes so nice.thats why I go ten miles to keep the doctor I have had for some fifteen or twenty years, It was ten degrees cooler there than here in Garden Grove.

Wow, Hatley! You're lucky that you were going to your doctor's and not someplace else! Yes, it is so easy to get heat stroke in this kind of weather. It's a shame your appointment wasn't today, though, since it's cooler. I sure can sympathize and empathize with you. I thought I was going into heat stroke or at least heat prostration when I was stuck in that broken car a week ago this past Sunday. When I got home, I also drank water like crazy. I couldn't wait, though, and we stopped at McDonald's on the way home and I picked up some lemonade. Normally, I sip my drinks but I had that lemonade gone well before we reached home.
I've learned a lesson: NEVER leave the house on a very hot day without water or Gatorade or something to at least replenish some of the fluids lost from the heat! Maybe you should get a refillable water bottle and always take that with you, at least in the summer on especially hot days. I know I will from now on!
PLEASE be careful, okay? We sure don't want to be losing our eldest (???) and most respected member here! You're just too near and dear to the hearts of so many myLotters, you know.

You need to be careful about the heat. Getting too overheated is dangerous and can even be deadly.
I'm glad that you're feeling better today.
My boyfriend came in earlier and said that it was dreadfully hot out. I haven't gone outside at all for several days now, so all I know is whatever temperature the a/c is set at. I'd rather not deal with the heat, and me not going out means that I don't spend as much money (I still manage to spend some though, since I have a bad habit of asking my boyfriend to pick up "a few things" while he's out running errands).

You must have felt awful.I am reading loads of people who live where it is hot.We live in England and it is so wet it has been raining almost non stop for three months. We could do with some of your heat and you could do with some rain to cool you down.I had to laugh about the computer in your doctors surgery ,sometimes the heat stops them from working.Back to the paper in the end write things out like the old days.Sounds like you had a good lift home then.Keep drinking water and try to keep cool.

Oh yes this heat lately has been extremely muggy and while I am most definitely love the summertime over the winter I can't take these muggy days. With my sugars and blood pressure as well the heat really takes its toll on me and not being able to catch your breath as easily in the mugginess is not how I want to spend my summer. Today is one of those days where I am just waiting for the sun to go down so I can get a little bit of relief. We have the air conditioner installed but when it is this muggy it does nothing more than run up my electric bill. I have noticed the last few weeks it seems like the evenings are hotter than the days and there is no breeze. But I will take this heat over the snow and cold any day becuase I hate the winter and at least with the heat there are a few days that is cools and you can get out and enjoy yourself as in the winter at least where I live when it is winter there is almost never any relief from the cold and snow.

dear Hatley,
Nice to hear you are fine now ma'm
It's rainy season here in our country but it seldom rains and the weather is always humid.
I understand the thirst, tiredness and discomfort.
I use to accompany my mother in-law who is also a diabetic patient when she goes for check up.
I know how hard it is, but she's a fighter though.
Take care and have a nice day ma'm

Our weather here en Graz is a bit like that too! One day it is very hot, then one gets a storm, it is windy, it rains, with gigantic pieces of hail some time and the much awaited cooler evening arrives, but then the next day it is more of the same again! Thank goodness I don't have problems like yours, but I still feel sorry for older people and those that have problems with diabetes or blood pressure!

I think you should try to eat food at the right time Hatley and try not to skip any of the breakfast, lunch, or supper. I think the climate of USA is very hot and most probably it might the hot weather that made you sweaty and feeling hot yesterday. I think most probably the climate might change there from hot to cool and also most probably you must be working very hard and traveling and going here and there without rest in between and be busy might be making you more overheated. I am glad that everything turned fine at the end of the day Hatley.
