My Husband Has Had It...

We heard a loud bang right outside the front door. When we opened it there was a drunk older man who fell on top of our lawn mower! He was laying on it unable to get up himself. My husband had to help him up! We called the police, were waiting on them to get him. This is every single day. We either have druggies or alcoholics coming to our house looking to borrow money or so wasted it is ridiculous. My husband is SO mad right now! We are so ready to get out of here. I wish my husband would get his settlement already, I don't want our kids growing up here. I don't want to live here another day but we have no option with not enough money to move! =(
So sick of this neighborhood...

How awful! I imagine with this being a nearly daily occurrence that the police are also slow to respond? That truly doesn't sound like a good place to be especially with children. Sadly the lack of money is what keeps good people stuck around rif raff that could careless about anything but getting stupid/drunk/wasted and causing trouble then being respectable + law abiding citizens!
I'd ask if there were some decent neighbors that you could do some sort of a block watch in the neighborhood with the police's help if you haven't tried that already.

I wish I had an answer for you.
The only suggestions I would have maybe if possible to live with family? Get a better job, a second job. cut your expenses somehow. Wnen I lived in a project as a teenager me getting a better job and keeping my other job as a second job was one of the ways I was able to get my mother and myself out of there.

I would absolutely get a job if we had a vehicle. We don't even have that right now... There is no where close that I could even walk to for a job. Unfortunately. the option of living with family is not possible either. =(
Like I said we are just so stuck right now with no options unfortunately...=(

Have you ever heard of Laurie Notaro? She is really funny, and writes about her life. The early years of her marriage took place living in a place similar to what you are describing. If you ever get a chance to pick up one of her books, I think it would make you laugh. Because boy oh boy does her neighborhood sound like yours.

I have never heard of her before but I will have to look for her books. This place is crazy, already this morning we had a guy banging on our door to bum cigs from me...I am sick of this place! Now not only do I not have the money to give him any BUT my children were woke up from him practically banging my door down! Ugh.

Wow!! This would not be a Good environment and place to live. I can understand your frustrations, and do not Blame you for wanting to move. What are the Cops doing about all these people? Just waiting until someone calls them? You are in my thoughts and Prayers for safety, and for something better to open up soon.

How scary! What do you think is holding up your husband's settlement? Is there any way that you can contribute a bit from the household budget (dimes, nickels and quarters DO add up quickly!) to put in a safe place, and make your future move easier? Do you own your home or rent it? If you rent it, you should speak to your landlord about what's going on and see if there's a reason for these crazies to be coming to your doorstep. And if you own it, was your neighborhood always this bad? Remember-you can always change your house (if it's ugly) but NOT your location! Good luck and be careful!

It is scary! It always takes this long for settlements. My father went through the same with his. It takes workers comp a long time to get you the money for a settlement. It's not their money so who cares right? They definitely don't make it a quick and easy ordeal...
We have started to save a little bit here and there but that is going to take a while too. Whenever I get a little money I put half back but my husband only makes $300 per week on his comp check until we get the settlement and we have 3 kids and our rent alone is $700 per month. Then all of our other bills and food, the money is gone, no extra at all...
If you read my other discussions you will see from them that our landlord is a slumlord who could care less about our situation at all. He does not care about anything. The ac broke in this place, it was over 98 degrees in our house and he told us to sweat it out! That is the kind of person he is...

hi lovingMyBabie yes you need that settlement money as soon as possible as it sounds really unsafe where your are. its not a
place to bring up children really. That must be nerve wracking having that kind of stuff going on daily. I will send prayers that God will move that settlement money swiftly to you folks so you can get
out of these surroundings. I worry about my Son as he lives in Santa And a city besieged by illegal gangsters in their twenties whose main thing is to drive by at night and shoot other gangsters. we call call it Sewage Ana by the way its that bad.

Yes we do Hatley so bad! I am so sick of this. At night I am always terrified we are going to be robbed, it is so scary! We are tired of living in fear. So many of these stupid people around here are always asking for money, it is ridiculous.
Thank you, we so badly need prayers for that! We are so ready to be in a decent place with a nice neighborhood!

It sounds like you really do need to get out of there. It does not sound very safe. I hope you are able to soon, before something worse happens.

LovingMybabies:
Environment will be what it is. we have to get used to it. If we want totally trouble free environment then it will be a costly place. I wish your problem is sorted out soon. In which State are you residing?

It is terrible. If we could afford a fence it would have been up a LONG time ago! The fence companies want a FORTUNE to put one up, we already looked into that. I wanted a fence here from day one but we do not have the money to get one...Like everything else it costs a lot of money that we just do not have.
