New Use for the Freezer

United States

We are having a heat wave here and since my place has no adequate a/c my daughter and I are waxing creative at keeping cool. One of the bright ideas I came up with has been to take wet wash cloths and put them in the freezer to freeze and then we lay them on our heads, necks, wherever we need to feel some coolth. Another thing we are doing is putting glasses and bowls in the freezer so that when we pour our milk or water or whatever into the glasses, they are not so hot as to warm the liquid we are wanting to cool off with and the bowls don't melt the ice cream before we can eat it. It's actually quite comical to look into our freezer because most of what we have in there isn't even frozen food! Have you ever used your appliances for things other than what they were originally intended???

it must really be hot where you are. Here in the part of Germany where I live the summer has been too cold and too wet up to now, definitely. These are some great ideas mainly with the wash cloths and the glasses

I just wish I could move to the coast. There's nothing like an ocean breeze on a hot day.

oh my, Elic, I would like to relocate. Thats the second summer which is no real summer. I pity the kids who are out of school for 6 weeks now.

Maggiepie likes her water COLD, just above freezing actually... I put half full bottles of water in the freezer and then pull them out when she needs a new bottle so her water stays cold - she just adds water and gives it a shake for cold water

I like to put my water bottles in the freezer for an hour or so...just till the little ice crystals start to form...then take it out to drink. Perfectly cold water! Yummy. It's like drinking from a mountain stream in Alaska.

the problem is that it doesn't stay that cold for more than a minute... and she can't get to the freezer that easily

Well, we all do what we must, I guess. I love having my daughter here cuz she can get me my water bottles whenever I need them.
