My dad asked me to download this 1939 movie called Gone with the Wind. I'm familiar with the movie title. I've heard about it many times and I'm wondering why this seems to be so famous. Most people say it's the greatest romantic movie of all time and it is said to be an award winning American epic movie.
The movie's runtime is 4 hours. A very long movie! I tried to watch the last half hour of the movie and the story is pretty interesting. I'm planning to watch the whole movie. I hope I don't fall asleep as the movie is pretty long. I hope the movie's length is worth it.

When I began getting into classic movies, I stumbled upon the title Gone with the Wind, among the other popular titles of Old Hollywood. I got intrigued with it, as I read more about the films info. I also found out that it was actually an adaptation of the epic novel by Margaret Mitchell, so I bought the book, as well. Lo and behold, I fell in love with the story just like the millions of its fans for the past decades.
Eventually I bought myself a copy of the VCD, and watched it. I must agree, it was such a long film, but what is an epic story without a long duration of its event, right? I loved the film as much as I loved the book. The costumes were splendid, and of course they have chosen the right actors to play the characters. Especially the lead ones, Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara. There couldn't be any other stars who could play it as realistic as the two of them did; they fit the roles perfectly. They also had the chemistry that is needed for the romance to work out (although some sources that I read say that they didn't really go along very well). I tried watching it again and again, and I must admit that I have gotten disheartened with the film's duration. But still, it is one of my favorites. Sometimes, maybe under my influence, my siblings also watch the film without me telling them to do so. hehehe.
It is such a great story. And it deserves the recognition it has received. This kind of story is rare to be seen nowadays, and I am thankful enough to have the chance to know this one.

I think I'll go check out the bookstores instead of downloading an E-book. When I read an E-book, I can't concentrate enough. The book must be pretty thick. But that's ok. I like reading. Thank you for your suggestions.

I can see that you're from the Philippines as well. Where did you get the book? Is it available in National Bookstore? For how much? I'm more of a reader than a movie watcher but I like doing both. Maybe I should read the novel first too before watching the movie so I can have an idea if it's worth the 4 hours. What do you think?

It is available in some National Book Store branches, but you might have to check out because there are times when the novel is out of stock. I can't recall the exact price anymore but I think it would be not more than 300Php. If you are nearby Manila area, you could check out the occasional bargain sale of books right beside Manila City Hall, I happened to see a copy of an old edition of the book. BTW, it consists of about 1100 pages so you really have to take your time reading. But if you don't want to spend much money and if you are also into the e-books stuff, you could download a file for free. It's available on Project Gutenberg. Just search for the keywords of the title and author as well as Project Gutenberg.
In my case, I have read the book first because I have obtained it before the copy of the movie. But I'm telling you, the adaptation is not too far from the novel itself; it was as if the scriptwriters of the film relied almost totally on the book. Also, I must say that no matter how long the film is, it is still worth watching it. And almost the whole world thinks so, too. Hahaha. :D The actors are very great in their performances. It was as if the characters from the novel came to life.
Enjoy! :)

It is a romantic epic and it Is one of the best films ever made But it Is long. Since you have your own copy, just see it in installments. Like cut it into thirds.I Hope you like it.

I might watch it in two parts if I don't have enough time to watch the whole movie in one sitting.

LOL. Thank you for the concern. Okay, I promise. Or maybe, instead of writing you, I'll just create a new discussion out of it for the benefit of earning more.

This is probably the most iconic films of all time; it follows the life of Scarlett O'Hara (played by Vivian Leigh), a Southern girl who becomes a woman during the American Civil War. In its day this film won LOTS of Oscars and is worth watching. But be warned it WON'T suit everyone and you will need a good four hours to spare to watch it. You will also need to n be in the mood for a Civil War drama. When the film was originally made it was designed It is designed to be watched in two parts (with a gap for an intermission) so maybe you could watch the film in that way. It certainly is a film of two parts, and the end of each of these parts is as impressive and memorable as the other, so whynot make it a two part sitting?
This may be an old film, and in many ways very dated but in my humble opinion this is one movie that should never be remade

That's what I heard. This is one of the movies that can never be remade. That's what I was thinking about. I don't wanna fall asleep while watching the movie. That's a great idea. I think I'll try to watch it in two parts. Have you seen it? how was it?

I have seen it many times and always enjoyed it.
I'll never forget the first time I watched it; this was at the cinema and around 42 years ago (before my marriage) It was classed as an 'old' film even then but I had never seen it. My husband and I (then my fiancée) were sat behind two older women who had obviously watched the film MANY times; all though the film they kept talking loudly about what happened next and 'how beautiful Vivian Leigh's eyes are' !! They spoilt the film for us! Guess I should have thrown popcorn at them or poured my ice cream down their neck!

I personally couldn't sit through it due to it's length and the fact I don't like romances but it is a very popular movie and has it's funny moments as well. I should probably re watch it again some day for a refresher anyway

I think it is a very good movie with a lot of memorable scenes. I guess there is the possibility that movie making techniques and other things would make it seem dated now. I saw it long after it was made and I still liked it. The story and setting(time in history), etc. are very much American and thus may not hold as much interest to those in other countries. Knowing some American history would contribute to enjoying it and I have no way of knowing the extent of American history that someone in country would know. But I would still suggest it as being a good movie that deserves to watched from start to finish and not in disjointed parts; that is if one watches in parts, they should be in order.

I know what you mean. I happened to see the war part, fire everywhere. The movie's effects were great despite the fact that the movie was made in the late 1930's. That's another thing that made me interested about the movie.
