There have been a lot of movies that's been remade. And we have to admit, most of these movies are better off remade than not. The remakes are way better than the original ones. But there are movies that somehow can never be remade. Movies like, Gone with the Wind, Somewhere in Time, Chances Are, etc..
What other movies do you guys think can never be remade?

Here is my list:
Usual Suspects. It has a perfect surprise ending!
Casablanca. Everything came into place. No one can duplicate that type of magic.
Animal House. One word Belushi!
Gone With The Wind. A classic can't be remade. It was made in 1939! These days there are so many new tricks the filmmakers back then couldn't rely on.
Psycho. Yes I know they did make a remake but They shouldn't have. Hitch's element of surprise was Perfect.
The Searchers. Two words John Wayne. Without him this film has no power or heart.
Raging Bull. De Nero Owned this part.
The Marx Brothers and the Three Stooges films. They had their own timing and they were of the 30's , Nit the 2012's!
Sophie's Choice. This moving film was great because of a great cast. Everyone was spot on. This only happens once.
Schindler's List. What can I say Everything was perfect. I could start listing things but I fear I would give away plot.

A Night At The Opera is my favorite!
Animal House is a classic. There wouldn't be any of the gross out so called comedies without it. I like Animal House far better.

Animal house
I have no idea why they even bothered remaking psycho! Vince Vaughan is no Anthony Perkins!
As for the Marx Brothers, they are timeless. I don't think there has been any act that can beat them. I think it is about time that these guys had a full back catalogue re-release.

I have very fond memories of the Marx brothers, my Dad loves them and it rubbed off on me. I have all the movies on VHS. I just wish they would re release them all on DVD. They only have half of their work on dvd
I agree, Animal House definatly paved the way for the gross out comedies

Hm.I've seen several movies who tried to copy Pretty Woman's charm, but it wasn't a success. There's something special about this movie.:)For example, Twilight. It can have a sequel, but a remake?Impossible. And Harry Potter movies. And Lord of the Rings movies. The best genre for remakes is horror genre.Compare some old horror movies with their remakes and you will see how funny and not scary some old movies are.Gone with the wind of 1939.Just brilliantly done, great costumes, nice acting of Gable and Leigh. No need to remake it.What is the worst sequel you have ever seen?

Pretty Woman. Nice choice. I love this movie! I can't think of any movie which seems to be a failed copy of Pretty woman. They may do a movie with a similar story but not a total remake. Maybe just an adaptation of the story.
Hmmm... There are several remakes that I totally hate. The Nightmare on Elm St. didn't excite me. I didn't even finish watching the movie. It's very far from the original. I remember The Nightmare on Elm St. as my favorite horror movie when I was little. My sassy Girl really sucks. It's originally a Korean movie. The original is fantastic, unique. The remake is a trash! The Echo, a hollywood horror movie, originally a Filipino movie called Sigaw (Scream/Yell in english), is the most boring movie I've ever seen! The remake of The Ring and The Grudge, both Japanese horrors, suck as well. Not as good as the original Japanese version. Not even scary in my opinion. I can't think of any more. I'm sure I've seen a lot of failed remakes but those are what I can recall as of now. :p
my sassy girl
sigaw (the echo)
the ring
the grudge

I don't think they should remake any movie to be honest! I have yet to see a remake of a movie that I like and have myself say. "that was better than the original"
The horror scene went through a lot of remakes and I am sure the trend is not over. Prequels seem to be the big deal now.
Reboots are not so bad but I am sure they will get on my nerves in time. Sometimes a reboot is necessary, such as the Batman franchise. It was rebooted with Batman Begins. The trouble is once the Dark Knight Rises ends and makes millions, Hollywood will want more and reboot it again Same deal with spiderman. The superhero movies are the big cash cow right now.

Hi sophiaraine: I think that all movies can be remade but the work is hard because the actors and the director needs to express the same feeling, intensity of the original movie. It's a very professional work to provoke the same reaction to the public and make a good acting but if they can do this as you mentioned, sometimes the remake could be even better than the original version.

I agree zone, 99% of remakes are not as good as the original...have you seen a horror movie called Black Christmas? The original was sooo creepy and good! The remake was just gross! Why add incest between a mother and a YOUNG son in a movie!?!?!? THERE'S NO REASON! Haha.
But I will say that there is one movie that I thought the remake was at least almost as good as the original (probably not better, but not a bad movie at all). Have you seen either of "The Hitcher"'s?
I'll try to think of other movies where a remake was as good as the origial, may be a while! Haha

Lily, Black Christmas is a classic, why they had to ruin it is beyond me! It is always funny how this happens but when a movie is mentioned by you,its on tv lol. The horror channel have an evilution of horror season on and last night was slasher night and Black Christmas was the second movie
I have seen The Hitcher movies, I have to say I did like them both. I did like the differnt end in the remake but I think I would just give up, if I was up against Rutger Hauer Sean Bean, I might be a little more brave lol

I agree. I think movies like Ghostbusters, Transformers, and other superhero movies and the like suits sequels more.
