Heya folks,
Any guitarists out there? In which style do you like to play your guitar?
I love the fingerstyle and rumba flamenco style :)

Not sure whether I can consider myself a "real" guitarist because I only know how to strum the guitar, but I find myself a big fan of plucking (is this the same as fingerstyle? ) and have always admired people who could pluck the guitar well, especially electric guitarists. As I didn't learn the guitar formally but just picked it up from a friend, mastering plucking is pretty difficult.

Don't sell yourself short. Do you play guitar? Do you enjoy it? Have you learned how to play the instrument or are you learning how to play it? Then you're a guitarist.
I think the original poster was referring to finger-picking and I'm assuming that's also what you're referring to. It creates an incredible sound. Like you, I'm always thoroughly impressed by it.

Hi starrm! Yes, I do enjoy playing the guitar even though I'm not very good at it. I have learned to play the guitar already, albeit only strumming. We can never learn enough of something because there's always room for improvement, hence we're always learning. I "specialize" in playing the piano, which I learned by attending formal lessons; and I can play by ear, which probably makes learning guitar a bit easier as the strumming part that I am comfortable playing relies mostly on chords, which is equivalent to playing the left hand on the piano. Still desperately looking for someone who is good in finger-picking to teach me, as learning on my own is quite hard without guidance.

So you're a pianist as well then! The piano is an instrument I would love to learn. I have a fairly decent beginner's keyboard but I haven't committed time to it just yet. Eventually, I will. I'd love to be able to play many instruments along with the guitar like the piano, drums, violin and several others.
What you should do is read a few articles on how to approach finger picking - things like how to rest your hand and common finger picking patterns to learn. Also, check out Youtube for instructional videos. Though not finger picking, I've learned quite a few songs, riffs, fills and solos by watching someone else do it as opposed to trying to interpret tablature.
Good luck!

Started to play guitar 2.5 years ago. I like Rock/Metal a lot :). Fun to pay and fun to listen to! I also like blues, funk & fingerstyle a lot !

I've been playing guitar for about 15 years now. In regards to style, I tend to play folk and blues. I'm a rhythm guitarist but I envy the ability to understand advanced theory and improvise and solo. I would also love to be able to finger pick but never really sat down with the patience to learn the method after spending what felt like an eternity getting to know the guitar and playing with a pick itself.
