Hello Mylotters!!
This subject is very important to me as a mother!!
It's summer time!!! Yes of course, next month most kids go back to school but there is still time to have some extra fun! Yet, are you making sure your kids read?? It's so important because kids do better in school if they stay involved with reading, writing and math. There are plenty more subjects to cover, but I truely feel that these are just a few of the many educational skills kids should put as top priorities.
My kids spent the evening before bed learning the capitals of each state. (They are 6 and 7 years old.) We try to make education fun! I even thought of making a game board with states and capitals to help them remember. Then again, I do love creating!
Remember how important it is to spend time with your children. As parents, we are their first teachers. I feel we should continue to be supportive as they grow. Kids learn a lot from their parents/grandparents. It is truely inspiring!
These are just my thoughts, and I would love to hear what you think!

I think it's very important to read with kids. I don't have kids of my own but worked at a day care for few years, and have been blessed enough to have many relatives with kids that have been in my life. And not all of them had the time or was willing to take the time to read with them, so lots of times I was the one to do so, and I enjoyed it. Knowing that I was making a difference in their futures.

You're absolutely right about getting kids to read at an early age. If you can inculcate the love of reading in young kids it is one of the greatest gift you can give them. It is so important that kids develop the love for reading when they are young and discover for themselves the joy and advantages of being able to read. One can only teach a kid so much. By enciuraging him or her to read he or she will have possess a lifelong habit of acquiring information and learning abilities.

My kid is still in preschool and can't read as yet but she loves to see the pictures and make up her own stories. But she just loves it when i read it out to her and make the story come alive. I think it is very important that we spend our free time getting involved with their activities. This is the age when they will yearn for you to be involved in their activities. Totally agree with what you have written.
