Worse food ever

WE went out last night for dinner with relatives from out of town. Since we almost never go out to eat someone suggested a place that their friends from work felt was great. Well I am glad that the conversation was the most important part of this visit. The food was terrible, soup like dish water, no salt, overcooked rice, chicken over fried in a heavy batter, it was just about uneatable. In fact we took almost all of it home to the chickens, they felt it was great. Have you ever been caught in that situation? I was so glad this was family not friends and that I didn't recomend that place to eat. But after all of that it was a great visit and
next time they come I'm cooking.

It can be awkward taking people out somewhere especially if they are from another area and are relying on your judgement of what the place is like for that reason i don't take people anywhere i haven't tried myself.I also think it can be awkward to recomend a restaraunt to others as i feel as if my taste is being judged and if they have a bad meal i feel responsible for them wasting their money this is particularly true if the restaeraunt is somewhere i really likeand have told the person how much i like it as i feel maybe wrongly that it makes me look bad.

We have been out for a couple of meals this weekend as family was visiting here as well. Each place we went left something to be desired. The thing is I was prepared to cook, but it just did not work out. Home cooked is the best cooked.

Well atleast it was only family. Next time you know never to go to that place, not unless they have a serious change of cooks or recipes. Maybe next time you can cook and have a nice little visit with eating outside?

Well, perhaps that restaurant just had an off night?
Naah, you're right, probably not likely.
Well, like you, I would recommend cooking anyway. You save money, you can make the food exactly the way you want it to be, and, you don't have to tip the waiter which saves you 10% !

I tend to be skeptical of many people's restaurant recommendations. I usually know several good restaurants in any area where I've spent any decent bit of time. However, that said, I have been railroaded into a few bad restaurants, and I once went to a place that my boyfriend's mother absolutely loved and found that not only was it unimpressive, it was downright horrible *shudder*.
Here, however, I know the good places, and there's no chance of my boyfriend's mother railroading us into a bad restaurant now. Instead, once she's doing better, we will be taking her out to some of the nice (but reasonably priced) places around here.
I have at least one place here that I would definitely take people to if I wanted to splurge. I also have a few places that are great for lunch. Even though we don't dine out very often, I do know the good restaurants around here. So, I think I'm all set if I want to take people out for a meal.
However, I am a good cook, so there's a good chance that I would simply cook a beautiful and healthy meal for them using local ingredients.
