Before I leave the house this morning, I've seen this discussion in our local television wherein the anchor of the show is discussing something about the increasing crime incidents in our country. As the survey shows, the main reason for some in committing crimes is due to poverty. Personally, I don't agree with this. I am also poor, I mean we were, but I never stopped looking for ways in order to finished my studies and in order to find a good job. Well, perhaps I would solicit some of your insights about this issue. Could poverty be the real reason for committing a crime?

hi,
yes,i will agree on that, the more poverty we experience the more crime we could have, because of poverty people need to do crimes to survive in their living,if we can lessen the reason of this poverty will surely lessen too those crimes we have.

Hi asliah!
Being one of the people who can understand how things are working, we should also make it a point to help our country in whatever way that we can.
Thank you for sharing!

I stand that poverty has never been the legitimate and soul reason why people are committing crimes instead ts the attitude they had. Some are very lazy and just very dependent on asking help and food for other people. I also came from poor family but we manage to strive hard to survive in everyday life.We sacrifice a lot when we were studying and we do also hard work to achieve and makes what we are right now. If everybody well do that I guess they will not be tempted to do bad things. That kind of people are just very lazy and wants only a fast result to have something. But i tell you there is no short cut in achieving something. It really takes process and time.

You are right Daisy. Being poor is not a justifiable reason for doing things against the law. What should be addressed upon is the moral values of the people.

I think that poverty may be one of many reasons to commit a crime. And it would also depend on what kind of crime we are talking about. I imagine that if you are desperatly hungry and couldn´t get a job, you might steal. But I don´t think there´s any reason strong enough to kill people.
As for being poor, I don´t think anyone that has an education and can even have access to a computer can be called poor. That´s why I don´t think that any of us, mylotters, are poor, although many of us livew with frugality.

i believe yes, "poverty" could be one reason why people commit a crime like stealing, holdupping, robbery, kidnapping, stuff like that. i guess, since it's hard for them to have and get money and like for them there seems to be no other way to acquire money so they tend to resort to these things and crime in order to have some money. also i believe that not all poor people are the same or commit the same crimes..i think it just depends on the person..,these kind of people are already evil or crazy, hopeless to resort to crimes in order to gain money.

Thank you for sharing your opinion on this issue jadoixa. But if we are adherent on our values perhaps we would not resort to doing crimes just to gain money.

I am not saint, if poverty push me to hard, I will commit crime in some extent, if what Robin Hood did was a crime, I may commit it too.

It can be a reason but not totally. it can be contributory of everything - thirst for power and position, it can be behavioral problem that push someone to commit a crime, it can their orientation and principle and so much more.
All we need to do is to be vigilant - report any reportable and suspicious persons or events.
I hope the government can do something concrete to protect its citizen against any unlawful acts. Otherwise, I may call for Divine intervention as my last resort. Thanks

Thank you for sharing your point of view on this issue mikyung. Yes the government is really trying to find the root cause of all this issues. That is why they are having this kind of survey, to know what is the reasons behind all these crimes. Actually, that is the top answer and I am not amenable to that.

Crimes arer done for alot of reasons,it just isn't because of proverty. Some people commit crimes because they are stupid and think they will get away with the crime! Some people are also selfish and crazy! Then there are people who kill someone because they want out of the relationship! So I believe it just is not proverty that increases crimes.

It may be a criminal's excuse, but I don't think it's a legitimate reason to commit a crime. The same energy used to steal can be used to work, search for opportunities to improve one's situation, or to improve one's education. I don't think it's wise to blame society for one's problems and use it as an excuse for bad behavior. Someone can always choose to be honest, and I think I admire the person who has less but struggles to be upright and honest than the person who has much and gains it through theft and dishonesty.

I do not see poverty a s a valid reason for committing a crime. Many people around the eorld live in poverty and do not commit crimes to get by in life. Poverty for committing crimes is just an excuse to place the blame to make it easier for people to deal with.

I think if someone is desperate enough and poor enough they will do anything to get out of the situation.

In the Philippines? yeah. Sometimes they have no choice because they have families to feed and poverty is very evident in the Philippines. Many of our pinoys are striving to live and trying to get money desperately to have the basic needs like food, clothing and shelter. That's why they resort to this doing because this is the easiest way of getting money. But it is also a immoral act. They could still get money by working and getting a job.

I really don't understand why others are doing such kind of acts. Sometimes parents have something to do with these especially if the one involve in crimes are children.

Hi friend, i agree with you, poverty is not the reason for the increasing crimes, a lot of poor people are living honestly, even though they are poor. It is just a lame excuse to do the criminal activities, mostly the person who are doing crimes have enough money in their hands to purchase some thing for their crime needs

True. If we will just work hard and maintain the true values and have respect for one another, we won't result to commiting crimes. Thank you for participating on the discussion.
