I mean without a day off? I have three jobs - all part time. But, I am always at my shop seven days a week. I know, a break once in a while is good, but making money is good too. Surprisingly, I am still managing to do it, except for my own complaints and stress. So, OK ... I can't seem to work seven days straight and I need a day off. I am always trying though. So, how about you people, can you work a whole year without a break?

BEfore I can say yes, I can work seven days a week. But now that I have y own family, Sunday is always our bonding time. Sundays is our family days. But when needed at my work, I could still work on sundays every now and then.

I miss Sunday bonding moments with no work at all. We can go anywhere back then but now? Our business is also opened during Sunday, sad to say. I thought of closing it during Sunday but we have more customers during that day. I also thought of getting help, but I think we can't still afford and my shop doesn't really earn big time, just enough. My husband did suggest that I have my day off during Tuesday or Wednesday just to have a rest.

That is one of the probem of having a business, you are still working even on weekends because most customers are coming at weekends but you need to consider rest day too. Your hubby if right, you might check what day of the week there are only few customers and use it as rest day and close your shop. However, this might not be a good option for family day especially when your kids are in school already but you can have a nice bonding time after schools.

I'm always with my kids, we just can't go out together. I guess, that's really the disadvantage of having a business. As for the day off, I'll think about it again. As of now, I really feel fine and not complaining at the moment :)

Yes, I can work a week straight. In fact, I've worked 12 days straight without any days off before. And even though I was completely bushed by the time my day off came around, had my boss asked me to work I would have said yes and gone in. Thank goodness she didn't though! I don't think I would have ever survived! LOL
Happy mylotting!

Oh, it was!
I couldn't imagine a day off for a whole year. Not in my line of work anyway. 12 days on was more than enough for me, although I certainly wouldn't mind making more money!

I've been doing it for about 20 years... I've always had a full time job... I do work as a translator part time so whenever I'm off from my full time job, I'm working as a translator... I just came back from vacation... I get 3 weeks of vacations from my full time job & whenever I go on vacation, I work as a translator... I went to Ocean City, MD & while I'm n my hotel room, few hours a day, I got on my laptop & work on few documents & call few clients...

I do have free times... I do work 7 days but not 24 hours a day, ha ha... I do make time for my family & I do get few jobs done while I can... My girlfriend constantly complains but she understands at the same time... When I'm doing work for embassy for translation work, it's mostly done online so my girlfriend hangs out at home with me... Same with vacations... When I do go on a vacation with her, she gives me few hours a day for me to get few things done... It's no big deal, really... It does require getting some used to but she ok with it now... She just likes to get on my case about it sometimes but it's really harmless... Good thing about translation job is I can practically make my own schedule everyday & work as much or as little as I want... It does help with my personal life, having freedom like that with a job...

Well, you are single and a male. I'm actually a mom. Like I said with three part time jobs but a full time job as a mom and a wife. Maybe that's the reason I complain a lot he he. Anyway, I found a solution last night. I will definitely have my break once a month because unlike you, I can't work all the time. But, really you are one amazing person who do not waste your time making money.

I had once asked the same question to one of my friends. He said he was unable to work in the office for a whole week without having a weekend to get relaxed. But he said he can easily work continuously for seven days if he has to do his own works at home.He was right.I too can't do my office works continuously for seven days.It is extremely tiring.

I work at home since my shop is actually there. It's really nice because I do not have to go elsewhere plus I have to stay with my kids. I'm always at home whenever they need me. It's still tiring though, when you work straight. Fortunately, I thought of a solution. I'll have my off once a month, that way I won't feel guilty.

I can understand it.You must be laboring hard. It's really not easy to work at the shop, with your kids and then work-from-home.All works that are forced on us,such as working at shop,at office, with kids etc are tiring. In contrast, doing home based jobs is like an entertainment for me.I don't get tired doing it.
Thanks for a nice comment.

I am definitely going to have my day off once every month. As much as I try to convince myself as 'super', I really need a break.

I can do so,I have done, but to do that for a Year?! Include Me out...
If We're busy at work, and short staffed for some reason,I will help out,but as we don't get overtime,I expect a bit of "I scratch their back, they scratch mine.." If I need some time off for whatever reason..
I'm working with a Guy who worked on a Cruise Ship, and He's telling me for the duration of the cruise they (the staff) don't have a day off-they get to relax once back in Port.I'm sure the Money's good, but just work and thinking about work, being stuck in that environment 24/7...it sounds like a good way to burn out to Me.
Having worked in the hotel business myself, some places provide staff accommodation on site so you don't have to travel "home"..on the plus side, being late shouldn't be a problem (Or an excuse?!)but it can also mean you can be easily reached if the need arises, but at least you're entitled to your time off..
On the other hand, even with this workload, you must get to have a break sometime..consider what it must be like for the crew of a Nuclear powered submarine..they can stay out as long as the food lasts...

I am working 7 days a week at the moment, but it is only a temperary thing. I have two jobs at the moment because many of my co-workers have gone on the vacation in July. I do their work while that are away and in the August when some of my other co-workers are going on vacation I will do their work, too. I am happy to earn some extra money for my trip and I don't mind working 7 days a week in July and August. I have never tried to work 7 days a week for a whole year. The longest period that I have worked seven days a week was from March to November, so that was nine months. It was hard and I didn't have time for much else, but I could really use the extra money and I don't regret working so hard.

I always need the extra money that I work extra too. But, it seems like whatever I do, it is never enough. Anyway, working without a break with a little gain adds up to my stress. So, I decided to have a break from it all. I thought of once a month can be enough. I won't have to feel guilty and at the same time I won't lose my customers.

I am a Supervisor in a BPO company without having an Assistant because she is studying. Which means that if our client tells us to extend in order to finish a particular task, then I will be obliged to report even on Sundays in order to output a particular file...I really can't always do it because I still have to wash my clothes during Sundays...if I will be reporting to work every Sundays, then I will have to go home early during weekdays just to wash my clothes....

Yes, not only that a day off is for relaxation, it is only necessary to settle things out. When I was still working full time in the pharmacy, I have 2 day offs, Saturday and Sunday. I spent my whole day cleaning the house and doing the laundry on Saturday. And on Sunday, I do nothing but watch movies and go to church with my kids. Wow, the life! Now that I have my own business, its OK that I have my off once a month.

I have worked 7 days a week before and do not like it, I love the money it brings in but then failed to find the time to spend it. I do not mind doing it every now and again to help the business out but to do it every single week is not good no point working all the hours 7 days a week if you too tired to go out and spend it. If I was just going to work mornings or afternoons like 4-5hrs per day and not 10hrs then I would not have any problems doing this everyday because I would still have the time to enjoy the money I have made and get to spend the day with my family.

Yeah! What's the point with all the money? With all the overtime pay you get, a monster of tax to be paid is also equivalent. Plus, it is highly likely that you will get stressed out and your body will be week working straight for seven days. This can make you sick and medicines nowadays are expensive, munching what you have earned in extra. And yes, where is the fun and the life? Unless you are a workaholic, you wouldn't find working every as a fun thing to do.

Spending money is always the fun part. I just wish I have more to spend. Despite of all the effort, money for us is just enough that I always have to dismiss the thought of a day off. It's a good thing that I am always with my family since my shop is also in our house.
@ AgentGulaman, I think I am not that stress yet. Very seldom that I go to the doctor. And work is always fun for me. I love work. Although, work can be tiring sometimes.

When I am single and broken heart yes I can work seven days a week and even for the whole year without day off because I want to be always occupied in many thing but i found out its not healthy, physically and emotionally. Now that I am married I preferred to work only during weekdays so that I can have enough time for my husband during weekends. Also having weekends off helps me to regain strength and relax after a stressful week.

How I wish I could have that but I guess not every week. If I close down every Saturday or Sunday, I'll lose my customers and since it's a net cafe, I have many customers during those days. My husband did recommend Tuesday or Wednesday for my day off. I can't seem to do it though because of the money :(

If you enjoy what you're doing then why not. Depending on the type of work that you're doing of course. If you're going to be super busy and super stressed out. It will be hard and not advisable. If it's a laidback and relax job then yes you and even me can do it. But if you put it 1 whole year without break then no. Even if i can, i will not do it. There are other things that i wanted to do apart from working. They are not related at all so it is not good to work 365 days without stop.

Phoenix wow
You are really a workhorse. You don't get bored? If I do the same thing continuously for a couple of hours, then I am sure to get bored. This mentality is not helping me,I guess it depends on the Individual.
I can't do the same work everyday of the week.5 days a week is all that I can handle.I will go crazy,if I had to work on weekends.I can't even imagine such a situation. But part time job can be good,if its not that torturous to my eyes and also gives me a reasonable income.

My body might be able to accomodate this, but i think i will not be able to sustain it long. i am used to having two day offs and of course, it is really not healthy for people to be working 7 days with no rest... :D I think even if the pay is good, if you won't even be able to have a rest or a day to use the money you earned then its probably useless. :P

I don't think that I can work a whole year without having a break or I will be crazy. In the school where I work, I work for more than ten days, usually twelve or thirteen or fifteen. The longest days we work are eighteen days. Then we have a holidays for four days. This is mainly because our students come from different areas or cities. With the four days' rest, they can go back home after having so many days of classes. Sometimes I cannot suffer it and long for a holiday and so it is with the students who have to study for so many days on campus. It is simple a kind of pleasure when our holidays come. Take care, phoenix.

When I was in my early twenties, I can work 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. I was working in an electronics company that time that manufacture electronic brake system for known car companies. I earn big that time but have limited social life. I can only sleep 4.5 hours a day. I was able to manage that schedule that time but I don't think I can still do it at present. I felt weaker when I reached 30.

A whole year? Are you insane? I don't even want the feeling of going to work. Lazy me! But I have been there and done that one. I did worked for twenty two straight days without day off. To top that one of, I worked more than twelve hours per day in that situation. But I did that and I don't want to do that ever again! I felt like I am about to get sick. Sick of work! Good thing I really didn't got sick during those times. That is why I already looked for another job before that situation fall on me again!

I believe i can work seven days a week. I did work at one of the local health product chain store and I need to work everyday including sunday for half a day. Of course I would prefer to have rest for a day or two to relax and maybe spend some time with my family and friends. Not to forget my girlfriend as I don't think I accompany her enough which will definitely proved to be a bad thing. Don't work seven days if you have the choice.

I guess, I have the choice. It's just so tempting not to. Anyway, if I really can't open my shop or there's a necessary reason not to operate on that day, then I'll have a rest day.
