Having Meaningful Discussions

July 18, 2012 4:12am CST
I am attracted to MyLot because it is an opportunity for me to have meaningful discussions. I find that since I have graduated college I do not have the type of people around me who will just sit down for hours and discuss every topic under the sun, just for fun. However, the discussions that I have posted so far have not really been responded to. Therefore, it has been difficult to discuss these topics in depth and to learn about other people's perspectives. What would be your best advice on starting a meaningful discussion that actually gets discussed?

I will join in on a meaningful discussion. The question is will I see it in time. My personal preference for conversations has been small groups and therefore shorter discussions in mylot. It is just a preference not my own personal rule, so if I see a new discussion I like will jump happily into it. Longer discussions are so difficult to read everything if you have not been into since the beginning. The other factor is my mood. I can not feel like I have to do something or it takes all the enjoyment out of it. I do like having discussions in mylot though. Some of the discussions I’ve started have not been big in the high number of responds department as you can certainly see.

I see your point that longer discussions are more difficult to keep up with. I am just as guilty as anyone else that I may skip over a discussion because of its popularity and I either don't have the patience or time to read all of the responses at that time.

Yes, it's not that I wouldn't like to be in a long discussion it is just that it is so intimating to start at the end of one. As for having quality discussions that is a plus and does happen from time to time here for me, really it does. However, many discussions are not too deep I guess we could express it that way as many people prefer it to be that way. I appreciate both kinds.

The environment here in mylot is multi-cultural and multi-national; some are bound to have the same interests like you and will soon jump into the discussion you have posted. Don't be discouraged; I also have some un-responded discussions but it's ok. Just post away and soon, you will find yourself among people who share the same interests that you chose to discuss.

In time I've found discussions that have been very rewarding but it is a hit and miss sometimes. Like you said Raine, just post away. :-)
