My three year old son comes to me..uncomfortable. It takes me a minute to discover he has a bad case of the hiccups. "Mommy, my hiccups are hurting me" I gave him a drink. I don't have the heart to try and scare him. And I have rubbed the tummy downward. I am out of ideas..

The only thing that's ever worked for me is clenching a pencil in my teeth and drinking water at the same time. Holding breath has never worked for me.

My family has always done a few different things...we drink water through the next hiccup, get scared, stand on your head holding breath or breathe into a paper bag. If none of those work for him I am not sure what else to try! Best of luck to your little guy!

A spoon of White granulated sugar can help.... or try some sugar water might help if that doesn't. I hope it works.

give him granulated sugar and ask him to chew sugar without biting it with teeth.
or u can give yogurt mixed with 1 spoon of salt. mix properly salt in yogurt and when it dissolved, ask him to take it with a spoon. soon hicups will gone away.
if again hicups comes or if he has more hicups, consult any doctor. may be he have some other big health problem.

This discussion is 5 months old, hope he is cured now, drinks, lot of water helps, it has many other reasons too, many remedies.
A sudden jerk on the neck to divert attention helps, eating sugar or dry molasses without sugar helps, i had hiccups non-stop , for days, reasons could not be known, but licking a mixture of honey with ash of burnt peacock feather helped me lol.

Hiccups are perfectly normal. Just let your son breathe in a paper bag. It works also to my nephew. Also, any diversionary tactic can help, let him watch his favorite TV program or play with him. Hope everything will be fine for your son. Thanks
