Egypt!

I only have 5 weeks to go till my holiday to Egypt and I cant wait! My last holiday was 6 years ago and this is the first time that we are taking both our kids, (my last holiday my daughter was just 1 and I was pregnant at the time with my son) so it makes it even more exiting. Me and my children went to get our injections that are advised to have to travel to Egypt, but my son just wouldn't have them! He screamed and lashed out, nearly kicking the nurse a couple of times, he was terrified! We are going to try again another day, hopefully he will get them done with his Dad. I'm not too sure though and I don't want him to end up being scared for life. He's only 4 years old so it's so hard to explain to him why he needs to get them. Any tips on how I can make it easier on him?

I would possibly offer a reward of his choice. Maybe that would help?

Thanks for replying. We have tried that one and it still doesn't seem to help, he just gets himself all stressed out when we talk about it.

This news is really new to me ,why do we get vaccinated before going to egypt,i have gone there a dozen times without having a single injection. Is it done because it is infectious. And many people are terrified and ideally petrified to have it done before going out a pleasant trip. Probably you can close his eyes and convince him that its a small ant bite before going to egypt and give him some chocolates too ,so that he does not panic about it

Vaccinations are recommended but not essential, and are there to prevent any sickness we can get through drinking the water or sometimes eating the fruit for example. I know my sister went before and didn't get vaccinated and she was fine but I think for children it's better to be safe then sorry. So I'm hoping he will get them next time.

Good luck with planning all you are going to do in Egypt. Since you haven't been on a trip for the last six years you must be especially excited. I am a very experienced traveler and for Egypt no inoculations are essential. You should not let your son have those inoculations. If he is that stressed about that then you should let him go on the trip without having them. Think about the diseases that they are for and those would be caught my unclean food, unclean water or insects. Mosquitoes can carry nasty diseases. If you went to a country with a Malaria risk then you would have to take anti malaria pills and sleep under an anti mosquito net. Even if you buy a toy to bribe your son it probably won't work. He seems to have a strong fear. Having said that I was pregnant with my daughter and I took my son to Cape Town in South Africa. I saw posters there warning about TB. That would be caught by a person coughing that has it.

Thanks. I know they are not essential and just a precaution but I would feel so much better about it if he would have them. We are going to give it one more try and if he wont get them then we will just have to be extra careful with what he eats and so on while we are there.
