Are there females angels as well as male?

At my last bible study we were in the Bible chapter of Zacharia and we read how the prophet saw two women with the wind in their wings (Zach 5:9-11). He mentions talking to a male angel also. I know the Bible usually refers to angels as male but that could be a matter of interpretation sometimes. Yes, the four names angels (Gabriel, Michael, Rafael and Lucifer) were all male, but there are times that because the word for angel in Greek is "Angelos," which is masculine, there is a notion to assume all angels are male. We also must remember that the Bible says angels are spiritual beings who sometimes take the forms of bright light or completely invisibility.
So what do you think? Do you there are female angels as mentioned in the book of Zacharia, or what?

Zechariah 5:9-11 King James Version (KJV) 9 Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven. 10 Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah? 11 And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.
It seems to me that angels are spirits and are neither male nor female. However when they have materialized they have always appeared as males. I think the women are not angels but represent something else.

I suppose that is very possible, 1hopefulman. I agree that angels are spirits like God. Since that prophet was not explicit about what they were we can only guess, but I would like to think that they were possibly angels because they were flying. As I have said before (as well as others) angels can take a number of appearances. And to further support my belief are the many accounts of angelic encounters I have read about in Guiding Post and Angels on Earth magazine where the angel appeared as a woman. Just because it's not actually confirmed in the Bible (like so many other things aren't) doesn't make it any less true or possible. With God, ALL things are possible, even female angels.

I commend you for reading the Bible. If we keep studying the Bible and keep seeking knowledge and truth, God will help us have a proper understanding of his will. May god help us all!

angel does not reproduce. God created them one by one. therefore there are no female angels.
in heaven there no marrying anymore. there is no husband and wife in heaven. Jesus our Lord is our groom and we are His bride.

We should remember that in many paintings and books the artwork uses many females, as opposed to males. It could be such angels are done this way so that we can relate to the artwork better, like we do with paintings of Jesus and even God. We can't relate to bright shining balls of light but other human shaped beings of love and power, we can. Just my two cents. =)

I see angels as being able to elicit both sides of their human sexuality. They can be both male or female according to the situation. I see angels as spirits on a different level from physical humans who can manifest in different ways. They can take over the bodies of other humans to make a point or give energy to inanimate objects. If they are angels there is not they can not do.

I totally agree with you, Sourceseeker, except for the part in which you say they can take over bodies of humans. I have seen GHOSTS/SPIRITS do that in movies and heard of such possessions, but I doubt very seriously that angels would be allowed to possess man.... people for any reason. Angels don't need to. And God wouldn't want us to be used in such a way. He wants us to act according to our conscience and feelings without possession. We should do right, act right, live right without any help from within by angels.

I think if you look at all the references to angels in the bible that you could easily come to the conclusion that angels are sexless. That is my belief. I also believe God himself is sexless.

Yes, it's true. I have seen those references and I have a few books on angels. They all seem to agree. What intrigues me these days are how some people who claim to have had angelic encounters are reporting that the angel they saw appeared to be female. Books like Angels Among Us by Don Fearheiley, A Book of Angels by Sophy Burnham, and Billy Graham's book, Angels, are everywhere on the Internet and Christian bookstores. Movies, programs and TV documentaries about angels are now available to see and in some cases the angels are depicted as women and girls.
And who am I to say that if an angel wants to appear as a female, that spirit shouldn't? =D

Ha ha, how could something that is said to live in the spirit world be female or male? They are nothing since they now have no genitals ha ha.
Were they once human? How does one become an angel. An angel is an iffy thing. No one seems to be able to classify what they are. Good, bad, what?

ALL... repeat... ALL things were created by God! The question is when and where? =P I took a look on the web and found this quick and easy answer. http://www.gotquestions.org/when-angels-created.html
Of course, it doesn't say if some were male or female either, but I am willing to believe, in light of all that I have heard and read, that they can appear anyway they feel is necessary to do what they must in the name of God.

As a Christian woman, I would like to think so also. I believe there is much in the Bible that was never written or saved about women prophets and angels. I have heard it said from some (usually a man) that if it's not in the Bible, then it must not be true for the Bible is the Word of God. I have to smile and shake my head at such ignorance. I hope one day I will be blessed enough to be allowed in heaven and see many beautiful female angels, even if they are considered by many as sexless spirits.
Yes, I believe them to be just like our Lord, spirit beings that can become whatever they need to be to do their tasks as commanded by God...even female angels. =)

Seems to me all angels are without gender ... Mt. 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
While they are referred to as the sons of God, so are those who have truly made Christ their Savior and many females have done that.
That is a vision Zachariah had and in some instances things seen in a vision are not "actual" but represent something.
