Very Disappointing

I recently ordered a portable evaporative cooler. It arrived today and we hooked it up. Now, this thing is supposed to work like a swamp cooler. We filled it with water and ice and fired her up. After an hour or so, the room was no cooler but a lot more humid! Now, I've lived in homes that had swamp coolers in them and, while I realize they are not as effective at cooling a house as an actual air conditioner, I know they are generally more effective than this baby was! So I'm attempting to return this unit and have ordered a window mounted air conditioner. My neighbor recently bought one for us so this will give us two. I plan to put one in my bedroom and the other in the living room. While this will mean that I will have to use more electricity than the swamp cooler uses, it will still not use near as much as central air would. Still, I am very disappointed. We had been awaiting this cooler with baited breath for the better part of a week. Have you ever bought something with expectations only to have those expectations dashed to smithereens like this? What did you do about it?

hi dear alaskanray I remember you were waiting for that cooler and I am sorry it wasnt really worth the money you spent. Something similar happened to us. We bought a special ice cream maker where you could make two different flavors of ice cream at the same time as it has two bowls. Would have been lovely as my husband isnt diabetic like me and so everyone would have had a special treat at the same time. But it didnt work, and now it sits here ready for disposal. Money wasted........ sigh......

Well, I have it all packaged up for shipping...now to find the cost of the shipping! I was so bummed to find that they wouldn't pay for the shipping. Amazon usually does but I guess this was one of their affiliates and not Amazon itself. After all this I'll only get $90 back...so I'll be out around $30 for the whole experience! Bummer! At least I'm not out the whole $125, eh?

Yeah, that's the tricky part is getting things returned before the time allotted to us runs out!

what an unpleasant surprise you got to pay all that shipping on top of the disappointment. As the ice maker is broken theres no way to return it. We learned after the warranty ran out as we had it sit here for a while, it wasnt warm enough for ice cream when we bought it.

That is terrible. I would send it back. If you are unable to send it back, try to sell it to get some of your money back.

I am sending it back but they are only going to give me a partial refund. They charge a "restocking fee" and I have to pay all the shipping...to and from!
