Does your religion forbid you to wear pants and shorts?

I recently heard that there are certain religions that do not allow women members to wear pants or shorts. I saw this in a TV show about The Hutterites on Discovery. If your religion forbids this, do you have to quit that church if you do not follow this rule?

The old fashioned factions of baptist and such don't allow young people to do much of anything. No cards, no dancing, no nothing. You would be thrown out of the church and be a discrase to your family if you didn't go by their rules. I am not a member of any church and wouldn't be.

I'm afraid I have to agree with you. This is why my hubby and I only go to an informal Bible Study at someone's home. We dress nice and I can wear pants or shorts without any complaints from anyone. What matters the most is that we worship together, pray together and read the Bible together.

I think such rules are not decided by God or religion but by a group of people who decide the religion rules. I am of the opinion no religion or a group of person should have the right to decide what one should wear. It should be ones own opinion and comfort as to what he/she should wear. But at the same time I also think that one should not wear anything which will provoke or hurt others. So based on the society we live and the ones comfort one should have a right to decide what clothes one should wear.Forcing anyone based on the religion is not good. This is my personal opinion.

Yes, Raghwagh. I agree with you also. It's usually a group of (male) Elders and pastors who decide what the rules are going to be. And if you don't follow them, you will get a talking to. It's happened to me so now I don't go to a church. At Bible Study, you can dress nice and casual and enjoy the fellowship.

When I was growing up, my parents church had a rule that the women had to wear dresses. They didn't kick you out of the church, but you were not allowed to work for the church if a girl put on slacks. So no women with slacks could work in the nursery for example. The church has since abandonded this rule because there is nothing in the Bible anywhere that forbids a woman from wearing slacks or anything else. They still require modesty. Obviously you can't show up in a bikini. But the dress only rule is just something pointless that humans came up with without reason. Perhaps it served some purpose a 100 years ago, but it's not in the Bible anywhere.

In my past religion women are prohbited to wear pants during the mass but they are not prohibited to wear pants during the regular days. Prohibition in wearing pants, I think, is not a good reason why you should leave your religion. Still, faith is very impotant.

I agree, Asdomencil. But leaving that religion is sometimes not a choice. If a woman sees nothing wrong with wearing a nice pair of slacks or dress pants and still look feminin, she should be able to go to a service without any problems from the church's elders or members. In the end, that is why Jesus did not preach about religion but by developing a relationship with God. Faith and love are very important too and one can have those without a particular religion.

Nope. We can wear whatever we want to.

Our church is much the same. I hope I hear from some women in MyLot who are and maybe they can help explain why this is practiced. It seems to me that such a practice was mandatory back then, but now... well, I don't see how wearing pants or shorts should keep me from going to heaven.
