My mom has a very serious illness and because of this she has to stay in the hospital for a week. I put her in a private hospital and thinking that I can used my sister's philhealth, I transfer her from ward to a private room. After we got the doctor's go signal so we can check out in the hospital I was heartbreakingly surprised of the hospital bill, it is a very big amount amounting to 47 thousand pesos. The bill costs us that because of the doctors' fee. I do not have big cash on my hand, good thing I have credit card that saves my face to embarrassment.

These are some instances when we really have to thank these plastics. I have a work mate who gets bombarded with calls from a collecting agency, and she's ok with it. Then she told me that she's got no regrets maxing out her card and it's ok if they keep on calling her, because she was able to get her mom through when she was sick.

Hospital bills are outrageous all the time. Fortunatly in my country there are some illnesses that are helped by the government. Unfortunatly credit cards have to br paid later on. Take care, friend.

Philhealth is one of the health programs in the Philippines that helps members to get discount or get covered at least 20-30% of hospital bill.

That's about $1,122 US dollars according to the online currency converter. Not many people have access to that kind of money right away! On the other hand, it costs more than that just to stay overnight in a ward here in the US. Your mother's bill here would probably be more than $40,000 US dollars here, depending on what she had done and that would be just the hospital bill, not the doctor's fee!
I'm so sorry your mother had to be in the hospital. I'm glad you had access to credit and hope you are able to pay it off. I know things have been rough for you. Hang in there!

I prefer to use debit cards. But, in dire situations such as yours, it wouldn't hurt to have a credit card in your pocket. Actually, I'm one of those people who is very skeptical with credit cards but if I happen to be in your shoes I would have done the same thing. But, before resorting to that, first I would try to convince whoever is in charge of the accounting of the hospital to give me a "grace period" for my bills. If that wouldn't work, then its swiping time for my credit card.

I stay away from credit card for it will always remind me that it's okay to shop even with a short money, for the credit card will shoulder it and I will get use of having and using it to debt. I cannot blame you for using it to save the life of your mom, in fact I am amaze how you handle your credit card well. Just be sure that you won't use it for shopping or anything that we can actually delayed in purchasing

Yes, Credit cards do have their use. But one should know how to use them. The main thing is that one should pay the credit card bills by due date. And remember never take credit to pay your credit card bill. If used properly credit cards can be a useful tool. By the way hope your mother gets well soon.

having a credit card is really of great help, especially in cases like yours. though a lot of people have negative thoughts about having it. they often say that it will drown you to debts, according to them credits cards will deceive you and make you do purchases that are beyond your usual expenses. all i can say is that it all depends on the credit card holder. yes, they offer a lot of goods and services with 0% interest but still the card holder is the one who will decide whether or not he is going to avail any. i,myself see to it that all the purchases i made through my card will not exceed to my monthly earnings so i feel confident that i could get to pay them. i also make sure that i pay on or before the due date because i really wanna establish a good standing with the bank aside from avoiding late charges. in a way, we do benefit from them as much as they benefit from us.
i hope your mom will get well soon. a good daughter like you will surely be blessed; God has ways of making you able to pay for that bill. :)
