When you are on your vacation, do you still check the emails concerning about your work? I am not a workaholic. I want to forget my job when I have my travel. I don't want to be bothered and I want to enjoy my trip with my family.

Hi youless, I'm not a workaholic as well. I will concentrate on work completely when I'm in the workplace only. I will forget all those boring workloads and enjoy my vacation to my heart content. I always set my cellphone to silent mood so there isn't any phone call disturbs me during my local sightseeing tour I will turn off my phone if I have oversea travel. My account will be charged expensively if I receive any call I usually would check my cellphone right before bedtime and sms back the caller if it's necessary. Sometimes an unpleasant call will affect our happy mood. Certainly I dislike my pleasant journey to be disturbed anyway. Happy posting

This a pretty idea I think it's nice for me to sms to those friends and colleagues who like to call me frequently before leaving for my oversea destination

This is why I tell my colleagues not to call me unless it is really urgent.

Hi Youless, when i was on vacation, i prefer not to check my working email. I don't want it to spoil my vacation mood. Besides that, most of the places which i go for vacation usually don't provide wifi connection, so it is hard for me to online. Usually, i prefer to checking my working email only after i am back from vacation.

I tend to work while on vacation for a bit. Not everyday but when I do I will wake up at 5am and spend maybe 3 hours quickly getting through emails and working on charts etc. When I work while away it helps calm me down as I know my income won't be hurt too much by not being there(in the office). I say as long as you don't over due it you are fine but some need to check their email every few minutes and this won't allow you to have a really relaxing time.

Nope. I want to enjoy my trip. So there is no use of checking the emails in my inbox. I know that there are people who will still stick to their job and even bring along the work when they are having vacation. Oh, come one. they should forget about it just for a while~(^^)

Definitely NOT! LOL Every day I use my computer, in fact I spend too much time on the computer, and I am on top of my emails and when I am away it is a wonderful break! I don't miss the computer and when I come back I can easily catch up. I even leave my laptop at home. So there is no temptation to check emails! Besides when I am away I can read books, and that is an opportunity I don't have when I have the computer in front of me!

It is necessary to do so when you have an online business.

This is what i call it as a coincidental thing which happens.since i am also right now on vacation checking my mails, chatting with my office colleagues.I think that is hard to beat and prevent from happening since we get used to it and believe that is a daily schedule happening so henceforth, our mind will automatically bring up those kind of thoughts to check for mails and what is happening in my office.it is inevitable

It's pointless to be checking work email while you're on a trip or vacation. I mean, you earned it, so, you should leave all the work aside while you're trying to relax. Its best to make sure that all you need to do at work are fixed and you have someone to look after your tasks while you're away. Just get things ready for your getaway. Good thing I didn't have access to work email outside the office, when I was still working. My husband, however, still tries to get on his blackberry to check emails from time to time. Well, I would understand, if its a long vacation, because of the type of job he has. We also would not want things to fail while we're away and cause it his job. Just do things in moderation and find right timing.

Totally agree with you, I hate to be bothered when I'm on the vacation. But when you know something urgent, you will have to put your time and enegry into the work to solve the issue, and your vacation will destory. So I think best solution is before you leave your office for vacation, delegate your responsible work to other colleagues, and then close your mobile phone and internet, enjoy your vacation with the family :)

Nah ah, no computers, no Blackberry. The only electronic stuff that we bring on a vacation are my private cellphone which doesn't have the smart phone capability, camera and iPod. we might bring a kindle but that's it. That's why it's called a break, a RnR. Besides, there will always be work, it will never cease to exist. I deserve this vacation and I will give it my all pretty much the same way I do my job :)

Yes checking emails can be bothering during holidays. We take holidays for a reason, to rest and relax keep our mind away from work. However i still do periodically check my work emails during my vacation, i only read extremely important emails while i read the rest unread. It is okay as my email is configured to auto respond as away when i am on a holiday

That is thenice thing about having an iPhone. I can connect my e-mail from any account to my iPhone, and check them all, from anywhere. If something comes up that I might want to thin about I do, but I don't feel pressure to check the work e-mail while on vacation.
