Cooling down...at last

Got my a/c installed today. What a relief! First I had to rearrange my room, pulling my bed over against a different wall and facing a different direction. Needless to say, all this sweaty work had to be done in the sweaty heat. It was so worth it, though, because now I am basking in the coolth of it all!
My neighbor came over and built a platform for the a/c unit because my windows are the cheap aluminum framed mobile home windows...the original equipment from 1982 when my trailer was built. There was no way I was trusting these flimsy windows to hold an air conditioner in place without some help!
Eventually, of course, I will get the windows replaced with nice double pane vinyl windows but for now I must manage to survive with what I have. I am on the weatherization assistance waiting list but that list is two to five years long! So in the meantime I will survive by any means possible! Here's hoping those two to five years go by quickly!

I'm glad that you finally got your ac and that you have a nice neighbor who built you a platform too!
I maybe replacing the ac in my front room (where my computer is) because its several years old and isn't doing a good job of combating the heat - especially when nobody turns it on before I get home!

hi dear alaskanray woohooooo and congrats on that new ac you got. You sure needed it from what you told us in your posts. We dont have ac here but I dont mind. Pulling the blinds over daytime and closing the curtains is enough to keep the heat out.

Oh, well. I prefer the more temperate climate to the kind where you can fry and egg on the sidewalk!

have to add its cooling down far too much here for the season. Where are the real hot summers of my childhood, when you didnt even think of wearing a jacket from June till September...... these days seem to be gone. I can count the number or really warm to hot days we had this summer, same as last year.

Yes! I am happy with it so far. I just wish I had a better window for it to be in...this one is so flimsy, we had to duct tape it and it still leaked when it rained! Oy vey!

hi friend, glad that you are fine now after the heat wave that swept you, modern ACs are lighter and more efficient. Since the receptacle was built around 1982 so guess it could readily hold the new one, just see to it that it's properly secured and since modern aircon seems to be smaller and lighter then see to it that gaps and spaces are well cover ( you can use cardboard if you have nothing right now), to save on the cold and power. oh before I forget, is it a split type?

I don't know what a split type is. It sits in my window and there are leaks around it. We'll take it inside, out of the window, when the weather cools so we don't have to worry about the cold coming in through the winter. I'm just glad to have it now!

Thanks, Ranger. Yes, I often miss Alaska when the weather gets extreme...either way. My hometown was pretty temperate compared to where I'm living now.
I so want to move to the coast!
