I admit this is one tournament that I rarely watched even thou it is shown on free-to-air channel. But the presence of some big names has stirred my interest. Spain is looking to grab their fourth consecutive major trophy but Brazil will have something to say. So who do you think will win the gold medal? Does nations like Great Britain stand a chance?

First.. I don't think Great Britain has a chance... I think it was wrong for them to not get Beckham... The other countries got some of they star players for their overaged players like - Suarez and Cavani for Uruguay, Hulk, Thiago Silva and Marcelo for Brazil and Mata and Javi Martinez for Spain. Britain has Ryan Giggs but I think they should have gotten another star player.... Second... Are you going to watch it? It's going to be fun. People in the Olympics are going to be the future stars... Maybe you don't know everyone on the squad now but when it's their time than they will be the most famous... I looked at the 2008 Olympic Squads and I realized that most of them are now the famous ones... probably back then some people didn't know their names! But anyway... That's what I think about Olympic Football. It's going to be an exciting one... My prediction is Spain... They are just so strong.... De Gea for goalkeeper, Jordi Alba for Defense, Javi Martinez and Mata for Midfield... I don't really know their strikers but Spain played with no strikers on the Euros... So I think it will work.. So.. Who are you for? Who do you think will win?

I might watch it for the big names that will parade their skills in London. I will be looking forward to seeing the likes of Neymar, Ganso and Oscar and to have a close look at the next wave of excellent Brazilian players. My pick for the medal, Brazil.

Arrgh! Spain lost to Japan! So, are you following the Olympics now? Brazil won over Egypt 3-2. But I still believe that Spain will win. Great Britain are in trouble because they have to face Uruguay soon.

Hehe :) , it's true first tournament as a less prestigious tournament, but it is now possible because of the players who played for the Olympics is the top players from around the world and had heard his name anywhere, so now the tournament is more valuable. The greatest opportunity in this tournament in my opinion is on 3 teams, namely Brazil, Uruguay and the United Kingdom. While the other seeded teams like Spain is not going to talk a lot in this tournament.

I do not think that a lot of the top clubs want to release their players with the league starting soon. I think that Great Britain will do ok but i can't see them winning it.

Brazil and Spain are the two most favorite teams t - Brazil and Spain are the two most favorite teams to win the football gold
I too did not pay much attention to that as it had been just an under-23 tournament to me. But the 3 over-aged players allowed for each team and the fact that the young players for this year's competition are not just those unknowns. So like you, my interest is stirred. On paper, Brazil with Neymar, Lucas, Alexandre Pato, Paulo Henrique Ganso, Oscar and Leandro Damiao will be the hot favorite. Strangely the Olympic football gold is something the mighty Brazilian has never won. Spain is strong too with their 3 over-aged players of Jordi Alba, Juan Mata and Javi Martinez. I don't think Great Britain will be able to deny the two gold metal contenders.

I think at the Olympics you need to remember that only 3 players above the age of 23 are allowed. So that brings African and South American nations into the equation big time. I think young talents from these places are better off than the European youngsters. European players tend to mature around 24-25 years. So I think Brazil, Argentina and probably one of the African countries like Nigeria would be in the running. The recent emergence of talent from Portugal marks that as another team to watch out for. Cheers! Ram

Well, I'm from Brazil, so, of course I think that Brazil will win the gold medal adding the fact that I hate Spain's soccer teams. If Brazil not made the mistake of taking out the sub 20's coach Ney Franco, I would even bet some money that Brazil would win the Olympics this year, but the coach of the Olympics team will be the same of the titular team, Mano Menezes and he doesn't know how to work with this team, it's a shame so many good names like Neymar, Lucas, Rafael, Tiago Silva and many others be coached for someone like him. I still think that Brazil have a chance, but I don't think that Mano Menezes can prepare this team for the decisive matches, the only good think is that Spain is not good in these matches either, so, for me, is not going to be a surprise if a team like Uruguay be the winner this year.

Actually, this is one tournament that I am looking forward to see in the Olympics. Soccer and basketball. But soccer would be more exciting as for basketball it is almost certain would be dominated by the USA. Ram mentioned about the soccer players age requirement which gear toward allowing more young or under 23 players in a team. So perhaps will get some surprises from these young players representing their countries. Would be interesting to see which country will get the medals. I would think Brazil has a good prospect...
