Yesterday evening one of our birds - Gaeton - started acting funny. He ate his dinner and just started acting not like himself: he could barely fly, would sort of perch. He just didn't look very good. We took him to Urgent Care and they sent us home with some medicine. This morning I got up early to check in on the little guy and he looked a lot worse. I rushed him to the vet and 3 hours later, he unfortunately passed away. The vet thinks he was sick a very long time and *something* caused him to just give into the illness. The test the ran on Thursday night aren't back yet.
My son is visiting his Dad. For the last week they have been on a camping trip in North Carolina. They are starting their drive back tomorrow, so I probably won't be able to talk to him until Sunday. I know he will be extremely heart broken. He is super soft hearted and in the last 2 years my Aunt had to put down one of her dogs, our other bird died, his Dad's wife lost a dog and each time he gets extremely upset.
When our last bird died, we took the body home and we cremated her in the back yard. This time since my son isn't here, we are having the vet do a private cremation. He will get Gaeton's ashes in an urn with both of their name son the urn and an imprint of Gaeton's foot on the jar. I'm oping with the ashes we can spread them some place and give him some closure.
Does any one have any ideas of the best way to tell him?
