Why do these bands ruin great songs. I'm sitting here tonight doing some work, listening to music and on comes this version of Etta James's "Id Rather go Blind" which is an absolutely great R&B song that she made very famous years and years ago. Lots of people have attempted to remake it, some did an "ok" job, others failed miserably. This band I just heard called "Chicken Shack" (I should have known just by their name) does their version of I'd Rather go Blind" They are using Rod Stewart's version of the song in a commercial right now, so you probably have heard the song if you watch tv. He, (Rod) did an ok job but this band Chicken Shack,,,oh my God..Etta must be rolling in her grave..She died in January of this year of natural causes. S he was most famous for her song "At Last" which everyone knows. Anyway, I just had to say, WHY? Icons should not be disrespected like I think Chicken Shack as done. Maybe you disagree with me, and that's ok, but if you do, listen to Etta sing the song, then cue up Chicken Shack and come back and talk to me! lol

Hi sulsisels~ I would definitely have to agree with you although I have
not heard this band "Chicken Shack" and hopefully I never will! I don't
like it either when someone is famous for singing a particular song and
someone else remakes it and really messes it up. Rod Stewart did a decent
version of I'd Rather Go Blind-(I am a Rod Stewart fan) and I don't
think he insulted Etta James. And Beyonce did a beautiful job singing
At Last for the President. It isn't too often that I compliment anyone
that "covers" an original song, esepcially the "classics".

I agree with you on both the Rod Stewart (been a fan since the 70's, giving away my age now..yuck) version and Beyonce's version of At Last...she also did I'd Rather Go Blind..So of course there are always exceptions to every rule...It's just that the bad versions stand out so much for the simple reason that we just can't believe what we just heard...Seriously, listen to "Chicken Shack" I'd Rather Go Blind" and have a laugh on me..Its a good way to start the day..youtube has it. Thanks so much for the post.
