Pathetic Manufacturers in my Poor Country

Philippines

I am now running my own business (just a sideline actually, as i am also employed as a broker). I was sourcing for umbrella and bag manufacturers who are capable to apply my customized designs. I was told by these umbrella & bag manufacturers that they cant do my design as they find it highly intricate. They were, however, routing me to manufacturers in China! Woah! Here i am, a businesswoman in my own country wanting to give jobs to my fellow Filipinos but because of outdated technology, they couldnt live up to my expectations! I would have to resort (again) to having my project (which is so intended for FIlipinos) sourced to either China or India. I also sourced embroiderers (for a dress) here in my country and they said, they couldnt handle my design because it is so intricate. They referred me to India! Oh my goodness gracious! How do we expect this economy to grow when there are many incapacities and outdated technology! This is so infuriating! And frustrating!!! And so i would hear and read comments about Filipinos boycotting Chinese products... I wish i could tell them... hello... without Chinese products, you are done for... Just look at the umbrellas here... fibrella... so you think Made in China is not durable, look again... Fibrella is China-based... Look at the polo shirts... so you think its from the Philippines?? Look again, its from China! Almost everything that you see here in our poor country is made in China. Can you blame China for being so empirical? Dont act too proud Filipinos... We dont have enough products that we could call our own! We dont have enough manufacturers here who can compete in the global market! Pathetic!

hi graceekwenx, As far as I know we are globally competitive in may ways if you are familiar with the tetra bags that made of tetra packs like zest? We are the first in making this as far as I know what about the lilies we find it useless but Filipinos find a creative way to make is useful one and this are in Global market now. Foreigners love this kind of products. I think Philippines is pathetic and poor country because of the citizen who is not knowledgeable and not supporting their very own. happy mylotting

Do you know what the movies Lord of the Rings, Braveheart and Batman Begins have in common aside from being epic action blockbusters? The swords and blades used in the films are from the Philippines.

Well in that case maybe you should try to make your products on China or in India. And be proud of your products that are made from China. You can't help anyone from your own fellow Filipino's if they can't reach your expectations. Good luck on your business I hope many Chinese will appreciate your products.

Well prior to 1978, China was as backwards, and impoverished as any other 3rd world country. They didn't have leading technology in anything, let alone making a dress. China changed their laws, and economic policies to stop preventing foreign investment. Stop preventing private companies, and profit making. By doing this, now China is drastically growing and fast. I would be willing to bet you good money that the reason the Philippines is so poor and backwards, has something to do with the economic policies your government has. Something is holding you back, and it's not China.

Hi Gracee! That is actually a major problem in our country. Filipino citizens may have great ideas that can support the economy but the ideas are not really technologically supported. Sometimes, I feel so sad to even if we want to help our country grow better in the area of economy but it is not that ready for global competition in some areas. Well, just go go with your business even with the help of China-based manufacturers. You can generate employment in our country in other way. At times, I do buy China products..They are cheap and pretty nice.

You are right. Filipinos are too much dependent on the products that are made in China. I hope someday we will stop patronizing their products and go to our own domestic products. I am not a fan of Chinese products unlike those other Filipinos. One reason why they go to Chinese products because it is cheap. However, I don't think the quality is that good enough. Filipinos should realize it by now how important it is to stick to our own product first that is Filipino made than going directly to imported goods. Sad but true.
