When I was on vacation a couple of weeks ago, i went to visit an older cousin as I do every year on vacation.. We sat on her porch and she came out of the house and hugged everyone( my children and my grandsons)...she sat right beside me and I said to her that she looked more and more liked her father...she said to me "George Hunt" in a question like manner...then I asked her about her children and we talked about 15 minutes..THen all of a sudden, she yelled my name...and it startled me..she then began to explain she thought we were family of her grandson's girfriend who was sitting on the porch when she came out.. that was a wierd feeling to be conversating with someone and say they don't recgonize who you are especially when you have no idea whats going on..and to top it off she is not very old... Thats the second time in my life that has happen to me.. Have you ever experienced anyhing like that????

Hi Bj, That has only happened to me once and it was a friend who had known me his whole life. It had been a while since we'd seen each other but not that long...certainly not years or even a year. It was kind of bizarre. If I'd gained or lost a lot of weight or did something else to drastically change my appearance, I'd have understood. I, of course, have aged over time but my looks have not changed so much as to make me unrecognizable. Heck, elementary school teachers that I haven't seen in years and years still recognize me and they are pretty old now. Either your cousin was just having a "moment" or something else is going on with her. Hard to say. I will say that alzheimers and dimentia are hitting people younger and younger these days for reasons unknown. I have a friend that works in a nursing home and she says that she sees a lot of people affected that are in their early 50's which seems pretty weird to me.

yes that was very wierd,,,but like I said her family said she is ok..I do that debilitating dimentia is striking people earlier and earlier in age...and it is a little wierd...

I have experience this before, but the family member had Alzheimer's. But they thought I was my sister, and my younger brother was my older brother. I know I would be so confused, and scratching my head. I wonder if she has dementia, or alheimers?.

well its really understandable if they are sick and you can expect some confusion, but like I said she does not have Alzheimers',, and I am happy to know that....

It's good she isnt sick or having any type of disease. SOunds strange if you visit her every year she would know who you are. I know I've bumped into cousins,a nd had no idea whot hey were but I hadnt seen them in years.

May I know how old is your cousin? Well, I m experiencing such.. and it hurts me much to see my aunt not recognizing her own family.. I know that she is old now but I don't know why I couldn't accept those fact that she doesn't recognizes me anymore.. I hope your cousin will be okay..

The same thing happened to me but the case was different. There was a time gap of about 34 years so he didn't recognized. Even though i told on phone that i am coming to meet him.But its ok.It happens. He has not done is deliberately. And afterwards everything was very very fine.

It would have been funny if early on she let you know that she's struggling to remember who you are; but it is kinda weird that she let you guys talk for 15 minutes before she admitted not really remembering who you are; I also couldn't start conversing with someone unless I figure out who I'm with. Anyway, how long has it been since you last see her? I have experienced this with my dad's side of the family as the last time they see me was when I'm 11. Back then I was really chubby you'd think I have no neck. So when they saw me lately they told one another, "that's Raine? Why is she pretty?" Errr I don't know if that's a compliment or not lol!

Well we all laughed it off anyway because when she call my name was the moment she recognize who I was...she did say voice was familiar. But I did say in my post that I see her once a year when I go there on vacation.its an annual trip....

I think I did experience such situation before. There were once during chinese new year where all relatives would be bringing their family members to visit other relatives and friends. I was talking to my cousin who is the daughtet of my aunt who is older than my dad. She didn't know who I was even though we played with each other when we were kids. As she was leaving, her mom asked her why don' you spend more time with your cousin. Then only she knows who she was talking to.
