As part of taking care of myself I remind me to be grateful about all the things I do have instead of dwelling on what I don't. My kids were lucky enough to take swimming lessons this summer and go to VBS.Do they really need something else or just play outside the rest the summer? IWe have cub scout meet n greet on Tue.

How fun to have grown up near a river like that! We have the beach but I don't want them to learn to swim in the ocean. Although my 8 yr old wants to surf now. I told him I would get him a body board first.

I love how you have activities planned out for your kids, and want them to be involved. It's a great thing! I wished my parents got me more involved when I was a kid; it's something that will stay with you throughout life. I think these activities are more than enough for your kids; what you can do maybe is plan out some trips I guess? Take them to new places, visit landmarks, museums. As them what else they want to do, and see what you can make of it!

Well we do have a Disneyland trip planned for September. I remember wanting to take violin lessons in 4th grade n my mom said no. Whatever! I just wanted my boys to be able to. Bit they do a lot. I have to remember they can't do everything. :)

I remember when I was little we learned how to swim by family.. Now it seems that people take their kids to the Y to learn how to swim. To each their own.. I think when I have kids I will teach them the way I was taught. It's much more fun.
We should all be grateful and happy for what we have, and when we have money to splurge, we should be happy we have that too...
It's so hard figuring out what activities to involve kids in that will help the grow, give them fun time etc.. I have a niece and nephew and they do a martial art, when I was a kid I didn't even go to summer camp! I did have fun though.

I think you are wise to be grateful and focus on the positive things because you are teaching your children something important through your example.
I also think it's a mistake to try too hard to entertain children. Allow them to find constructive ways to spend their time.
You can communicate with them and if you have at least 1 child who enjoys reading you might be able to take them to borrow books at a local library.
Teach them to be independent enough to choose how they spend some of their time.
