Today I got a final interview of a company that I liked, but now I felt I could't get this job because of my poor English. Actually I don't realize how bad my English before today. Today a paragarph of text was resquested to translate into Chinese by the interviewer. I found so many words I had forgotten, so do the grammers as well. Now I think if I need to stop looking for a job and take some English courses. I afraid I will fail in the next interview for the same reason. Can someone give me some suggestions to improve my English in a short time. Thanks!!

This would be a tough situation to be in. I know around here sometimes not being Bilingual keeps me from applying for certain jobs. All I would do if I were you is spend more time in here working on your English skills and find other sites and stuff online that can help you. I think with everything comes practice and then you often find yourself being more ready than you thought you were. Wishing you the Best.

Hi, I also have the same problem. I once applied in a well known bank in the city and was interviewed. I was really disappointed by my poor English that time and with myself as well. I actually took English classes which lasted for like 7 weeks. But I realized that it is practice that really makes my English improve. We have to make it a point to use it regularly. I can't seem to do that because all the people around me does not use English as a means for daily conversation. It is awkward that if I will be speaking in English all the time when everyone around is not. They might laugh at me. They say the reading the newspaper everyday, reading books, watching English movies, and participating in English discussions like this and most importantly, conversing in English daily, will help us improve our English skills. Improvement will really depend on the eagerness of the person. If you aren't shy to speak in English to you family, to everyone you encounter, that would make you improve faster.

English is really important nowadays. This is considered to be the most used language in the world. If you can speak english, you can be considered competitive globally. There are many opportunity in any field when you are able to speak english as well as you know much of the grammar.

I don't think you should give up going on interview. You could brush up on your english online in the night time. That way you could continue working and interviewing while learning english better. It all comes down t a common sense mentality. Don't stress it very much.

You just need to do some more practice. I do not think that this will be determing factor on hiring you unless the job you are looking for requires advanced knowledge in English.

There's a lot of aspects about English that a person will have a problem with: are you having a problem with writing in English, reading in English or speaking in English? Or all of it? Narrow down your weakest aspect then start from there. If you think your main problem is writing in English then read a lot of literature in English; mostly the news as they use wordings and statement construction that is also in the level of English in a corporate level as compared to the "streets"). If your problem is speaking in English, practice with a friend, or in front of the mirror. It doesn't happen overnight, and yes, practice is the key. With regards to ceasing your job hunt, it is your call but I personally think that you have lots more to offer than just the ability to speak English; unless your main job is a translator. Good luck!

Yes, english is very important as well as Chinese. In the world today, the main medium of communication is normally English. This is why a lot of Koreans, Japanese and even Europeans want to learn good English. A lot of schools also prioritize the English subject. For example, school reportings are done in English and stuff like that. I do suggest that you take more English courses if you are poor in English. but I believe that a job won't just reject you because of your English. That would be too shallow if they did. Just continue learning and you will get there someday. Good luck. Have a nice time mylotting.
