Does that happen to you?

When people hang around others for a while they sometimes start talking like them or saying things the other person usually says. I was over my parents house the other day and my father said something I always say when I am angry. He said Son of a Biscuit! Lol. I have to say kid friendly things when I'm mad. I just thought it was so funny to hear someone else say that. Do you ever find yourself saying something your friend or family says?

All the time! A couple expressions I picked up from friends include "sugarfoot!" and "doesn't that melt my little pea-pickin' heart!" When I met my ex-boyfriend Bill, my favorite expression was "doggone it!" but he always said, "dad gummit!" and by the time we were done with each other, I was saying "dagnabbit!" We used to round and round with those ones all the time. Another one I picked up and use to this day is to tell someone, "Well, see how you are?" This is like giving them permission to differ from me in opinion or how they do things. Very few in my inner circle know, however, how to complete that statement. The proper response for the most fun is, "That's the way I am. Deal with it!" On a road trip one time my daughter started trying to bug me by saying, "You're so lovelable and cuddleable and I just love you!" But I turned it back on her and instead of getting annoyed as she expected me to, I just joined in the fun. I'm such a mean mom!

I have to say that most of my favorite colloquialisms that I use are tied to fond memories of good times had and when I use them, they take me back to those fun times.

Isn't it funny how we do that? I think it is so funny! I never expected my dad to say that. We all do it though. If we hang around someone long enough we start talking like them!

Picked up a new one last night that just hit my funny bone! "A cat can have kittens in an oven but that don't make them biscuits!"

Yes it happens to me. It happens to everyone actually. It just rubs off and becomes normal. Its like when you leave NYC and visit another state, to us people talk funny, but if we were around them long enough we would start talking like them. I don't totally understand it, but it does happen.

Thats correct. It does become a habit. I remember listening to the Howard Stern show and he used play this sound bite from some night time show. And it basically was "Hey Now." I still, to this day use that saying. It became such a habit and pert of my vocabulary. Nice!!!

I know it happens to the best of us! Lol. It becomes such a habit we sometimes don't even realize it.

I had a co-worker that used to say "lucky pup" instead of "lucky dog" and I still use that. The recent former roommate would say "honey-bunny" and I've picked that up to.

the former co-worker was pretty clever with her way with words, I find I still use several, tho I've heard some from other people

Lol, I think its funny that we all do that at one time or another. It is so weird to me though, its like we cannot even control it sometimes.

Im guilty with this . When I hear some new expression that sound good to my ears I would imitate it, actually i do it involuntarily. Maybe it was stored to my subconscious mind then when a moment comes that I can use that statement I say it. Actually words not just from friends or family but also lines from movies. I have this favorite line I got from a movie uh I cant remember the title but it was starred by Salma hayek and Pierce Brosnan where Pirce Brosnan's character said when he answered a phone call " State your business". Since then i use it instead of saying hello when answering my mobile if the caller is my husband or close friends or relative.. Its something funny start up for a casual talk..

So many of us are guilty of it, your definitely not alone. Lol. I am guilty too. I cannot think of something right now but I have caught myself in the past sounding just like someone else!

I just thought of one that I got off someone a long time ago! When someone says Leave me alone. I say how much? Get it, a loan? Lol. Silly but it stuck with me for some reason!

Oh yes, I never cuss, but my vocabulary becomes extra "colorful" after meeting my husband. So whenever I'm mad and he hears me cuss, he will stop me and he will apologize because he taught me that haha! But I do watch what I say when my kid siblings are around. I only slip when it's just me and the hub.

Lol, sometimes they bring out the best in us, don't they? Yeah when the kiddos are around we have to watch our potty mouth!
