I was not that satisfied with the Romance at the ending, because the heroine was not able to marry the man she loves although the man had took him as his mistress. I like this story very much because it described well the culture in Japan during that particular era.
It's a very angsty and dramatic story.
Well the most I could tell you is the part when the heroine first met the man she had fallen in love with. He is much older and he secretly sponsored her to be a geisha, and the unsuspecting girl, throughout the years, thought her success was because of her Older Sister, the one who had taught her everything about being a geisha. Her most frequent customer was the best friend of the man he loves, he was described to be looking disgusting because of burns and all, but he's a big softie. Because of this, the man was not able to show his interest to the heroine because he do not want to hurt the feelings of his friend. However, in the end the heroine did something that made 'the best friend' mad at her and this had given the opportunity for the heroine and her love ones to be together.
The story kinda reminds me of Daddy-long legs too. ^^

i like the story at the beginning till she grows up because her life was exciting and painful at the same time. but during the war - i was a little lost because her being geisha cannot be found in herself already (correct me when i am wrong because i almost forgot it) - love it when you will going to tell to me the summary of it again...
thanks for joining in here :)

Memoirs of A Geisha is one of the books in my collection that I have read multiple times. I never get tired of it. I've seen the movie as well and liked it just the same. I got my copy from Ebay---a pre-owned one. Search Ebay or Sulit, surely you cand find a copy there if you want to save some money. A new one would cost around 400 or so. I got mine for maybe 50 pesos, plus 60 pesos for shipping.
The novel is narrated by Nitta Sayuri in her old age. She recalled how her life changed from being a girl in a fishing village to becoming a geisha after she was sold to a geisha house, or okiya. Hatsumomo, that loathsome woman, caused Sayuri a lot of troubles.
