Strange Cat Behavior

I always wondered why my cat behaved this way. George is no longer with us, but we raised him from a kitten for 5 years. We have a ceiling fan in the room where he spent a lot of time, and one time we turned the fan off to clean it. When we turned the fan off, George went ballistic! He would yowl really loud and run outside or under something. I think he was really scared when that fan stopped moving. We tried it another time just to see, and he behaved the same way. Any thoughts on this?

Awe sounds like he liked the fan. Probably since he was a kitten he listened to the fan n maybe gets upset when things were changed. Cats make me smile. What a nice memory to have.

I have a lot of nice memories of George. We have four other cats now, but I will always miss George. He disappeared in 2010.

I`m so sorry about George, we were out of home for three days, we`ve just came back three hour ago, and I couldn´t find my kitty named wiskas. We have another kitty named margalo who has three kittens of 28 days. I was affraid that wiskas had run out of house with such kittengarden here. But she just came out from I don´t know where

My husband said the same thing, like maybe his animal instincts made him think it was a bird of prey or something targeting him and getting ready to strike.

Hi drumfelt I think that he loved the fresh air, and enjoyed the fan movement. One of my kids, no kittens, had a similar behavior

But it was supposed to be on.
In a cat's world, things are supposed to be a certain way. If we humans alter things, we risk upsetting the cats. This can lead to all sorts of things ranging from vomit in a shoe to a cat bouncing off the walls, yowling and hiding.
Before doing anything, it is best to get cat approval.

When we got our entertainment center the cats just stared at it for a few days and then gradually warmed up and started sleeping on it. I guess they really are wary of changes around them. I'll have to have a little talk with them before we move anything else! lol

Perhaps he thought it was a living creature and you killed it? lol
George sounds like my kind of cat.

That is rather strange but I can beleive it happening. Cats can have some phychological issues sometimes too like anyone else, and I bet he was so used to the fan being on he thought there was something seriously wrong when it was shut off. I have never heard of such a thing before but every cat is different. Perhaps he liked how the coolness of the fan felt as well, and wanted it bak on?

You right it could have been a big security issue for him psychologically.
Thanks.

How crazy. I stumbled upon this post because my cat just did the same thing. I've had the fan on non-stop over the summer and now that it's getting cooler I wanted it off. My cat LOST IT. He is thoroughly spooked still, and when I turned it back on he didn't "feel better" right away. He keeps staring at it and then runs off again. I feel bad for the little guy but I'm cold!
