I got a pet turtle, i am so excited.
I cant have much of anything where i live but, i was ok to have the turtle cause its in a tank like a fish would be.
Hes such a cute little guy.
Hes a baby painted turtle, we went and bought a whole bunch of stuff to make his cage nice, it cost way more then i thought it would but, my wonderful boyfriend bought it all for me and we are keeping the turtle at his house. I think he likes it as much as me.
Do you think turtles have personality?
I think mine does he is so crazy, but he has so much energy he likes to stand on one foot and put his hand up on his plant at first we thought he was stuck but, we watched him get down and then do it again so he wasn't stuck.
What have you learned about turtles?

i used to have a pet turtle about a size wrist watch. i made him a nice quarter. got land and water. i bought feeds as well. one day i just notice his eyes is always close even when he is awake and strolling. he also acquire problem effectively finding his food. his days lasted two weeks after i bought him i buried him alive. euthanasia they call it. i was really sad but i can't manage to see him that way.

aww, poor little guy.
I hope my turtle stays healthy, I know hes very active hes a swimmer he loves being in the water.

oh so sweet of you. You know i wanted to post discussion on this and here you are before me. lol so i tell you this. We found a small turtle crossing the road at about 2am in the morning while coming back from a friends home. We brought it home and kept it in a tub since we didn't have a tank. I used to take it out in the lawn so that he could roam there. One day i put him outside and he was lost. I searched it everywhere but could not find it. I think it went on the road and somebody picked him. I missed him so much. I still miss him. I was a cute one with diamond shaped back. ohh i miss him so much.

awww, I bet he was cute. me and my boyfriend were up at his parents house and some people came over with this little turtle they found and they were gonna put it in his parents pond, well we didnt have a tank and so they put it in and we went up i said about wanting a turtle and his dad goes you should have said so i have a tank you could have so we went down to the pond with a net and we happend to find him i was so glad we found him.
so then yesterday we went to the pet store and got him all the stuff they say it would need.

@plekenut ..yeah I am in Goa at the moment and it is all coastal area. So there was another person on another bike who came towards the turtle but we were first to get him. Whe we go close to them, they become like still legs and head inside the shell. So it was easy to catch him. and this is how somebody caught him when he went outside.
@musicluv.. Yeah music, it was a cute one. I was sad when I lost him because many people eat turtle meat.. I hope it did not go in the wrong hands

I have never been a fan of reptiles, their cold skin and scales really are creepy :( sorry but I can't see them as cute, and as I look at them as pets, they seem to be dirty and stinky. I still prefer creatures with fur and feathers.

Yeah, i dont blame you there.
I would get a rabbit if i could but, its either fish or a turtle where i live so i figured turtle is cute and hes funny to watch.

We did used to have a turtle when I was younger, but he wasn't a pet that we really kept for a long time because none of us really knew anything about turtles. When we really didn't know what to do with him anymore, we ended up giving him to my mother's boyfriend's son because he knew how to raise turtles. For me, I think that I would rather have a dog or a cat or even a fish because those are the kinds of animals that I actually know something about.

If i could have anything i would want a rabbit but, where i live i cant have animals with fur or feathers, so i settled with a turtle cause i really wanted a pet. I think hes pretty cute too though.

Oh congratulations, turtles are so cute. If you love turtles I have a cute story, my hubby rescue them. Not as a organisation but he works outside so sometimes he sees baby turtles in the rivers and rescued them. So recently I had to say to a new repairs'guy here that there was 7 big turtles to be rescued, they were going to put cement in here and none of my neighbors said anything. It was a wonderful momento to put all of them in the river for the first time in their lives, we actually recorded and cried, one of the turtles came back to say good bye can you believe that? Animals are amazing indeed. Just bring us joy.

wow, nice.. So do i. I ever have 6 litlle turtles. The Brazilian turtles. It can live in water and land. I bought them in healthy condition, as big as my litlle finger..so funny.. But poor me, only one that it survive. Now he is alone, bigger than my palm. You should know its behavior, about feeding, temperature, and cage. And i think it has a personality, lol. Yupz, after i bought it, i feeding them with kind of pills special for turtles. But, over time, i change alternately the menu with salad, meat, fish, shrimp, fruits. Until now, he doesn't want eat the pills. I don't know why, lol. I hope this one left until he get old, as big as he can ;)

we have a little fake turtle rock its white and it puts minerals and vitiums in the water for him. Also we got turtle pellets and shrimp he loves the shrimp.

We had small turtles as a child and kept them in plastic container things. Then they were outlawed cause of a salmonella thing I believe it was, if I'm not mistaken. I have seen them on the sides of the road and such and have rescued a few putting them bak in a safer area. My brother has had bigger turtle for awhile. They are cute. But some can bite, especially snapping turtles. I'm glad you were able to get some kind of pet, and kudos to your bf for buying it all for you and keeping it all at his house. Your turtle seems very happy and healthy, what did you name him/her? Do you know if it's a male or female?

Yeah, we got a painted turtle hopefully we wont get bitten.
I am not sure how to tell if its a boy or girl, But we named it chip.
I dont know i been calling him a boy, i just have a sense like its a boy by his actions. But, really i dont know if hes a he or not. lol
