cocktails just KILL me

I believe lots of u guys have been attracted by those fancy appearances of cocktails. So yesterdy I just made one called Gin Rickey according to a software called cocktail flow(in windows8 app store). The drink consists of Gin, Lime juice and soda water. In my opinion, it just tastes HORRIBLE. Maybe I'm not a good appreciater of cocktails or there are some problems with the ingredients.
So, what is your experience of enjoying cocktails???:D

I'm not a big gin drinker. Everyone once and awhile I will have a martini. y husband orders his all crazy ways with olives, dirty, shaken, ect ect. Its worse than taking him to Starbucks lol I would think gin (which is an acquired taste) + lime juice would be pretty harsh, then you add in soda water with no salt....i bet it would be good if you could balance the lime and soda water and add just a pinch of salt. Would still be pretty potent.
