How Many Doctors Does It Take To Heal My Chronic Wound?

Personally this is a thought that has been on my mind for the last 2 days, and it will be interesting to find out the real answer as well. As many of you know this has been an ordeal and 1/2 and personally it is really starting to make me wonder. I have had to see 4 doctors so far in just over the past yr. that the Wound clinic has either made me see or referred me too, and then when it does not heal or my leg gets infected, etc. the Wound Clinic continuously always is wanting to blame me. When I was told the Vein ablasion surgery would do the trick and then my wound would heal, I was all for it. The problem was in the time prior and for quite a few weeks the wound clinic was like we cannot do anything for your wound until after the surgery, so when I got an infection it was my fault. Then they finally tried a Skin graft which my leg did not take too which they said was my fault as my A1c was too high. So they also said they do not know what else to do from here, and keep on getting infections again and it is my fault? Come on, who are they kidding. I ask for one Antibiotic.. They refuse it and send me to someone else saying they are unsure what to do now, and that doctor does cultures and gives me the antibiotic I was requesting? Is it really that hard to get something done? And now the wound clinic wants me to still come there, and maybe they can decide what they need to do next from here. Personally I am tired of being used like a Gunea pig for this, and everyone needs to come up with a game plan and quit passing me back and forth. I keep on insisting trying Oxygen therapy and they keep on saying my wound, since it is not on my foot is not necessary. But come on I have been going there now over a yr. What really will it take for this to heal? Any thoughts, Prayers and opinions are welcome. ~~TINA~~

hi tina keep after them as someone is bound to realize that its time for oxygen therapy and send you to a hyper baric chamber and help you get healed. here In California they do this a lot for diabetic wounds and it does work too.

Tina, it only takes one doctor, the right one. I hope you can get oxygen therapy.

Well, my insurance ok'd oxygen therapy as a form of treatment, if the wound center ever gets it set up. They keep on insisting though that this wound is not bad enough and so it would be a waste? They even say your wound, etc has to show a lack of oxygen before they will consider it. Makes you wonder who's health care I have? If my insurance OKs something they are still knocking who really knows what is best. Just getting quite frustrating for sure.

I think getting the second opinion was good. This is what the third group you have gone to seeking help. I think this last doctor was good and had some good ideas. The wound people were okay for awhile until they ran out of ideas. I am really thinking that you just have to keep seeking new opinions until you find a good one that has some answers.

Well I just wish the doctor would have tried moving me on to someone else months ago instead of deciding he knew everything and I have to be proactive to really get something done. I do take a protein shake that has really made a difference and the things are looking a lot better since trying a new strategy. Just hoping someday for this all to be over.

And feeding them from the inside too with super nutrients wouldn't hurt a bit.

I have always been fortunate that my doctors have trusted my instincts about stuff Of course I have not had the serious issues you have had. I hope that something comes together for you as far as this leg wound.

Personally I am hoping something good comes out of this soon as well. I can say that this is getting old and drawn out and I will be glad when they finally work on getting me the oxygen therapy that my insurance ok'd even though they keep on saying even this may not help. But seriosly, with all that I have had to endure you would think they would see the reasoning why I would be wanting this to eventually be completely healed.

I don't understand your reasoning, they are telling you the situation you have an infection, so how is that blaming you? It is a fact period. Are they to pretend you don't have an infection for you to stop thinking they are blaming you? They are not blaming you at all they are just telling you what is happening with your wound as they understand it. Again your ALC was too high another medical fact, they are not blaming you. You have to stop thinking like that. It appears they really don't know how to fix it or they would have by now. Unfortunately, this happens. Doctors are not God. They can fix only what they know how to fix. Obviously yours is a very complicated case, and has the doctors baffled. Have you considered maggot therapy? I will pray for you hon, and hope that the wound will finally heal.

you always have our prayers Ms.Tina, for one i always thought your place will have the most advance things in the field of medicine but hearing your problem it looks like the search is still on. I have no answers for it as i am so bad when it come to these stuff, but i really really hope you find the answer for that. If you are just hear, i could have probably introduce you to our herbal medicines which well, might help you heal that would.. and i am not sure if you believe in such too. But i am praying you will get better soon.

Hi Tina. Maybe it isn't within the doctor's power to heal you. They blame you because they think you are somehow hindering your healing. I think this is to take any pressure off them. Are your sugars always high? Are you seeing a dietitian for your daily diet intake? Do you keep a food diary? Are you overweight? Your picture never looked like you are overweight to me. My brother had wounds that never healed. His doc suggested weight watchers. He lost a great deal of weight and he has no signs of diabetes anymore. His wounds are just scars now.

The problem with doctors these days are that they are so specialised and won't touch anything that is not in their speciality - possibly due to litigation. Unfortunately that means that the poor patients have to be transferred between doctors for what would seem to most people to be something that could be looked at quite easily. As for antibiotics, they could have given you what is called a 'broad spectrum antibiotic' until the culture was done, and then give a specific antibiotic for the bacteria which was giving the problems.

When you say "wound" what exactly do you mean? Is it an ulcer? Is it an injury you somehow received and it's not healing? How big is it? Where is it? Do you keep a dressing on it and change that dressing daily? How often do you change the dressing if you have one? The reason I ask is that my Mum had an ulcer that plagued her for years on and off and even put her in hospital for complete bed rest on more than one occasion. Like you, I fail to understand why the doctors are saying it's your fault it's not healing. Have you asked them to explain? Have they explained how it's your fault? Have you tried alternate medicines or Chinese medicine, or acupuncture or any other type of alternate health? Maybe it's time to look beyond the track you are on now.

Hello Tina, I think there are more and more doctors now a days that are more worried about the number and the dollar than they are the patients. It just seems like they are rushed to see you don't listen to what you have to say and just want to write you a prescription to heal you. I hope that they can get yours figure out, both my husband and I are going through and have gone through similar to what you are talking about. It took 7 years for my doctors to diagnose me as diabetic and that was after I went to the hospital for something totally different they would tell me it was the flu or even a few times told me it was in my head because there was no way I could have all the symptoms that i was complaining of now it was undetected for so long that I have permanent nerve damage and I am so insulin dependant that I have to take Humalin 500 and 11 pills 4 times a day. They have few times told me that if only it was detected earlier it could of been controlled and I always tell them WTH? I have been saying that for years nobody listened so it your fault not mine... I knew my there was something wrong a person knows their body!

hello Tina, I wonder why they can't give you the best and proper medication that you need (it's been a long time) The only thing we (and other mylotters) can offer is our prayers I remember my sister's case. It take us few doctors and opinions, random check ups and a lot more before they came to one result regarding her health. Keep the spirit my friend and be strong always

If I have learned one thing through the past year as my husband has been going through the diagnosis and then treatment for cancer, it is that it is up to yourself and your loved ones to be your advocate. If you don't think that things are going right with your treatment, it is important to find a second opinion and see if their suggestions are different. As far as wound healing goes, I certainly know that it is a long process, and does get discouraging, but I don't think that it will ever happen when they are placing blame on you.
