Today, we only have 4 people total working in our department, since one person in sick leave; another person is out of the country. Tomorrow, will be worse, one person on vacation, and there will be 3 of us. On next week, our supervisor, and team leader will be out for vacation too, so there won't be many people at work. Now, we are super busy, and the progress on work is slowing down. No wonder we have to work overtime everyday. But at least we earn some extra money now, why not. Although it is super - busy for us, I think it is worth it.

hi,
do you mean to say manpower, actually i am experiencing that here in my company actually not just me but to my co-worker too,we are experiencing less manpower or an employee here in our department because the encoding of the application more bulky than before.so we suffer to do all task in just one employee.

I remember these days as well, when I use to work in fast food. We always had to pick up the slack for others. Many those who called in sick because they didnt feel like coming to work. I use to work midnights and we would be working 3 -4 extra hours, and the managers werent nice, or understanding which in the end is why majority of us got fired. I hope it goes smoothly for you, and not too stressful.

King, indeed it is very tiring when we have to handle a few persons jobs all at once. Those whose leave being approved are lucky since they can have a good vacations. Those workers which remaining to helps run the daily operation of the company is suffering. I ever been in this type of situation, where i need to work overtime to compensate for the uncomplete jobs. Lucky my ex-boss is an understanding person and he compensate those overtime as an extra income for those who come to work. Although we are very tired but at least we are getting some rewards in return.

Here in our work, one of the basic training for the newly hires supervisors is to assign them in various department to be trained in other work areas. In this case, whenever a department needed someone because of lack of manpower du to emergency leave and vacation, there are some option that can be temporarily assigned in other department as reliever in case the other department has enough manpower and only few things to be done.
I think you can ask the HR if there can be someone to be assigned in your are for the meantime to cover the works of others, though, like what you said, it is good for you to have overtime for added income.

On the other side, at least you get your due.
But I don't think it is worth of using the health to gain the wealth.
Good luck.

Wow, seems like the manpower at your office is temporary insufficient. You didn't mention what kind of office you work in though. Anyway, having fewer workers around means more work. It should not be much of a problem besides having to work extra hours. You still get paid for it so it is not really a bad thing. Do hold on until the others returned from wherever they are going.

The company I used to work in also had a lot of issues with staffing, for example staff calling in "sick" when they just didn't feel like coming to work.
For a busy company like ours, to lose staff for insignificant reasons like these really pisses the hell out of the other remaining staff, especially when we can already hardly cope with the amount of workload.
At least for your company department all those who are taking leave are doing it for valid reasons or using up their entitlements. Anyway, hope you're able to pull through the "difficult" period; make sure you record your overtime and make sure you get paid for it ya!

I know the feeling although my department is always short staffed. I am going away soon and happy to say when I return I will have a new person working for me. I hope this pays off as I will be training for a few days. When are you going away for your summer vacation?

Good for you, Kingparker. You get extra pay for your overtime work at least. I am on the other way around. I am feeling terribly dull and boring when working. This year is lousy for our industry. Thus, it is hard for my collegue and me to get busy. I am kind of jealous of you. Enjoy your busy day !

Good thing you can get additional pay for doing other people's work. Maybe they still require you to have overtime and may that be a hassle for you. Nevertheless, you will get paid for what you do.

Yes if you guys can get extra money and I think that is OK,unless the overtime job is too much and last too long, get more money is great but your health is much important than that,so pls do not overwork your body, actually you guys can hire some parttimes workers for help if it is really too much work to finish.

Hi,
That's good news because you can earn an extra money. The bad news is that maybe your work so hard and not paying any attention to your health. I think it's OK to work in an extended time but you need to consider your health first.:)
