i find it very hard to picture life after death (separate consciousness) I once had a lot to drink and lost all of recollection of a night and made me terrified of death, I fell my existence is pointless and meaningless and that consciousness is localized to the brain and when i die that's it. I don't want to be true but it is sometimes how i feel, plus if consciousness is separate, why are people mentally ill, why when we drink a lot is our consciousness distorted, when we sleep, we blink one moment and the next we are awake. I hope someone can help me out here and maybe offer me some comfort because from the moment i feel incredibly low, and pessimistically about life.

It is true when we die we lose consciousness, it's the big sleep and we will sleep until God wakes us at the end of time. So to be sure you are going to wake unto life everlasting and not eternal damnation. You have to repent of your sins and accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. That is the only way. If you have a Bible read the gospel of John, that's the one that explains it best. Find a Bible based church doesn't matter what denomination and go to Bible studys.
