I had a nightmare in the afternoon today

Hi Mylotters,
Normally I get nightmares occasionally but it has always happened when I have slept at night, towards the wee hours of dawn sometimes. But today I decided to take a short afternoon nap and I woke up screaming after some time. My mother was also there sleeping beside me in my room. She woke up too. I wonder if this has something to do with my watching of the movie 'Child's Play 2' on television a few weeks ago since I saw in my horrific dream that I had this doll that was haunted and it murmured some words of hate and then started stabbing me. I was so scared as it seemed so real as dreams always do when dreaming and I had broken out into a sweat when I woke up. I do not have any dolls anymore now but have some soft toys. This is the first time that I had such a dream during day.
How about you? Have you had such terrible dreams, typical nightmares during the daytime? Please share your thoughts.

Sorry to hear that you had that awful nightmare. Nightmare are horrible. It probably does have to do with watching a scary movie. I don't watch scary movies but usually when I have nightmares it's often about something realistic. Like someone trying to hurt me or my family. Nightmares are pretty scary because they feel so real.

I haven't had a nightmare in awhile. I'm thankful for that. I also hope that you have been nightmare free during this stretch of time. It would be great to have only happy and good dreams.

Hi friend!
I've watched one time on television regarding dreams that what we thought before sleeping may contribute to what we are going to dream at night. The psychologist even said that we should think of happy thoughts before sleeping to have some happy dreams and this is mostly experienced by most people. I guess your watching of the movie contributed too to your dream even though it's been a week since you've watched the movie. For as long as the movie is still up in your subconscious mind,it might be one cause of your nightmare.
Yes,I also had some bad dreams in the morning like after 6am. I usually get up in the morning to give my daughter her feeding bottle and then go back to sleep again and that is the time when sometimes I had bad dreams.

Hello my dear friend,
Well that is a very nice explanation of the whole thing!I am certainly going to take the cue from you and think positive and happy thoughts before falling asleep. I am sure that the movie was there in my subconscious mind and it led to this dream about this monstrous doll! You are having such bad dreams too! I think we are both stressed out and need to unwind and get a release from all the pressures that unknowingly force us down. Many thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic. I truly benefited from your ideas.

Hi, oindy54 If the movie was a horror movie, it is possible that the night mare came from watching it. We need to be careful what stuff we feed our mind with, as it can affect us more than we can imagine.
It can be difficult to find good programs these days so we have to choose in advance, before watching them. Only a few seconds from a bad movie may stay a long time in our mind.
Maybe this Bible advice can help: "whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Philippians 4:8 (King James Version)

Sounds great! Reading the Bible every day gives us a lot of positive thoughts. It is like a letter from a loving Father who cares for us.
He can also see to that we get help to understand his message.
I like to download the Bible books online. There are many places where we can download reading from the Bible. I like to go to jw.org where I also have subscribed to great magazines to my Gmail "reader" inbox. I can listen to them when I like and they give me many positive things to think of and advice and hope for the future.
Another thing, you can choose between a lot of languages.
This is one way to practice Philippians 4:8
Have a great day!

Hi friend,
Yes it was a horror flick. I never watch such films but happened to see this one at day time when all were at home. I did not feel so scared then but it certainly has had an impact on my mind from what I saw today. I fully agree with you that things we see or hear can affect us greatly. Most of what we see on TV tends to be full of violence these days. It is not healthy for our minds. I am grateful to you for sharing the above lines from the Bible. They are extremely relevant to me and I shall abide by it. Thanks a lot.

I only remember having one bad dream in my life. And I have watched many horror movies. I think you probably did have that nightmare due to the movie. But I seen those Child's Play movies and they were not scary at all. They were actually funny. I wouldn't worry about it. None of it is true anyway. Next time before you go to sleep, watch a comedy.

Hi friend,
I am glad to know that you have not had so many bad dreams and remember just one. When I watched the movie I did not feel scared too but it surely had some effect on my subconscious as manifested by the strange and horrific dream. I will certainly keep your suggestion in mind and watch a comedy before sleeping.

Thank you for taking my advice. I guess the subconscious plays tricks on us sometimes. The one dream I remember from years ago is one that I would never like to have again. It was that I was aware what was going on around me but I could not open my eyes or even move. So I stopped fighting to move and open my eyes and just laid there. Next thing I remember I was waking up in the morning.

You haven't, by any chance, been out with a friend's boy friend or ex-boyfriend (in which case the doll might represent your friend, who might not even resent it in real life), or a friend been out with yours (in which case the doll might represent you)? Or maybe it has something to do with rivalry for a job?

LOL! No my friend, as far as my knowledge goes my boyfriend is still loyal to me and I have also not gone out with any other guy. But I truly loved the analysis you have made! I love your sense of humor!I am still not into a job so I don't think that could have been a reason too.

perhaps the stress you have been feeling lately has made you react this way to a horror movie. i rarely used to get nightmares about them but before my surgery i couldn't even watch a movie like that for awhile without fear of having one. i just had too many issues of stress going through my mind, and am still having them but for now i won't watch any horror flicks. they used to be my fave movie, i'm getting older now and it just isn't the same probably.

Yes my friend, you are right. I have been stressed out of late due to some issues. I thank you analyzing it for me. Normally I do not watch horror films as I admit that I am still scared of such things specially when I am alone, I feel scared. This one I watched in the afternoon one day when all were at home. I never knew it would have an impact such as this. I will refrain from watching further horror flicks. How is your health now? I had a gallstone surgery myself few years ago and it took me some time to get full relief from the pain so I know how it is.

This is what I have in mind too. I believe that it has something to do with your body more than what your dream is about. The brain imagination through dreams were only the effect of how your body functioned in your sleep. Maybe you were too tired that day and stressed out. Anyway, im sure you will not rest if you are not, right? Just one suggestion though, drink water at least 2 glasses of it everytime before sleeping. It helps our blood circulation function well while we're asleep. Take care!

It's been awhile but I do believe I've had daymares, I guess you'd call them. I suppose anytime someone sleeps no matter if they are going to have a 'mare' they are going to have a 'mare'. I think we dream bad things like that because of things we've seen or our subconscious way of dealing with things we don't like or aren't dealing with properly.

The subconscious can really do strange things. We do not even realize what is embedded there and these make their manifestation through dreams. The human mind is so fascinating and bizarre at the same time. I really hope you do not have any day-mares. Not pleasant experiences at all and they affect us to some extent. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Definitely it has something to do with what you were watching. Better not watch any suspense and horror movies at all. I don't like watching those kind of movies because I know or believe that it can have some bad effects to a person's mind. So I don't see why there were some people who still watch that kind of movies. So if I were you I would watch some happy and positive movies so that it would replace all those negative movies that you have seen lately.

Most certainly I will take your suggestion and watch some positive and feel-good movies. Actually I do not watch horror films at all since I am scared of ghosts even though I am an adult now. But this one I just happened to watch out of curiosity. I will certainly refrain from watching any more horror flicks as I agree with you that they have some sort of an impact on our minds. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Of course. But it rarely happens. For me, the nightmare contains two meanings. As for (a hunch) or as a result (flower beds).
Anyway, I hope you are fine.

It is strange what the mind wikk take in and what it wikl not, Something as simple as a horror movie can move in and take over and let a nightmare creep in, Itt is difficukt enough to deak with these jubds if dreams in the middle of the night, the daytime sheds a different light on things.

It's called night terrors even when it happens in the afternoon.
With your tendency to experience night terrors I would highly recommend that you avoid watching horror movies. If you see it, there's always a possibility, that you'll dream about it happening to you.

That's afternoonmare! well, i had that too
But i don't know when i had a dream it's many and continues with different topic and venue.
The strange dream i had is that i dreamed of giving birth to my second child and i was in pain and i'm asking my husband for help but he ignored me. I screamed aloud because of pain which i thought was real but it seems that no one hears me.
When i woke up i called my husband in his office and told him. He said "it's okay, you know i will not do that i love you." and i'm released :) then after we talked, i whispered a prayer to the Lord asking Him not to allow those dreams to happen.:)

Yes an afternoon mare! It was really terrible my friend. Your dream is strange certainly. I often get strange dreams which I cannot account for. As many friends said above, it might be due to the stress we are taking on ourselves, often unknowingly. I felt so happy to hear that your husband told you those nice words. It is such a relief when our partner would reassure us and give us mental support.
