I live in Southeast Asia and eating a durian is nothing new to me. However, I just watched this show on the travel channel, Bizzare Foods , Andrew Zimmerman if I am not mistaken and he tried it and to him, it was THE weirdest or well bizzare food/fruit he has ever tasted. The guy who sold it to him looked like he was gonna jump him any second for insulting the taste over and over but that isnt the case. Have you ever tried eating the durian, what did you think of it?

I can't answer your question because I have never heard of a durian before. What does it look like and what does it taste like? I am very curious! That's why I responded. Also, considering the stuff that guy Andrew Zimmerman eats, I can't understand how he could insult a FRUIT. He eats some VERY strange stuff.

Oh dear! I'm sorry I didn't reply fast enough. Funny as it sounds, the durian has a hard cover and covered in thorns. For real, throns. The outside cover colour ranges from camouflage green to this sort of rusty brown. What's inside though, the fruit itself when you cut it open, is the part of the fruit which you can eat. Its yellow and very soft . It melts in your mouth! Its amazing! There are a lot things that are durian flavoured here, drinks, ice cream!

No no it is not sour tasting at all. And do not let wikipedia scare you about the scent! It is not that horrible . I mean sweaty gym socks is a little extreme. LOL.
Anyway, I have never tasted custard highly rich in almonds to confirm the taste, as so it says in wikipedia. You can eat the durian during different stages. As it always is, the riper, the sweeter. All the best finding it! Do tell me what you think!

Hello Olonam, I'm glad you like it. There are so many exotic fruits to be tasted! Have you ever tried the dragonfruit?

That is the problem with food, one man's delicacy is another man's horror. I have never had a durian, but had heard about it, that it is an acquired taste, but like a lot of food, when you enjoy it you don't really see the issue with it. I would probably try it one day if I found it.

Hello leeloo!
True. I love sushi but I cannot handle seaweed like california rolls, cannot handle them. And that is a good way of putting it, it is an acquired taste, like dark chocolate , oh so bitter yet delicious.

Hello jricky1! That's cool that you just tried it and we're discussing about it now. It is delicious and it is not just mere talk that it contains high nutritional values, I read that it contains serotogernic amino acids , which in fact help boost the neurotransmitters of serotonin- the feel good hormone. So after you eat the durian and you are smiling, you know why! LOL.

I also live in a country where we have these down the southern part of the country. I have never tasted fresh durian fruit, but I sure had a whiff of it when it's so ripe. These weren't allowed in planes except when properly sealed. But I did taste the candied durian and it's pretty good. The seller told me that the taste is very similar to the fresh fruit minus the smell.
Maybe he was able to say it tastes weird because of the smell, and we know how our sense of taste and smell are so connected to one another. If you can't smell the food like, for example, you got colds, the food tastes bland.

Hello! Ooooh yum, candied durian. And yes, the smell makes the tasting experience all the more exotic so to say. You should go out and get them. Perhaps even those durian pancakes I see sometimes. Can you believe it durian pancakes? LOL.

I live in the cenral part of China. I have never heard of durian when I was a child. When I grew up, I heard of it from a movie. At that time, I only knew that it smells bad. Now I have aten it for many times. What I want to say is it is indeed delicious, but I don't like it so much as you.
