How often do you write?

I don't have much time to write anymore, I haven't updated my blog for quite sometime now as I have to spare some time on my textbooks. I miss updating my blog sometimes but the silver lining is that I have myLot! Since I decided to be active on here, I've been opening discussions and posting responses and even looking up the online dictionary to use certain words. Who says myLot can't be educational? I know some of you are writers of different sorts - bloggers, freelance, authors.. you name it. So I think those who fall into this group write thousands of words every week. And I must say these people tend to have great minds, a huge respect to them. You know, writing prompts is quite useful? You can find it all over the internet, or make your own!

When I was still single, i used to write for 2 magazines. Back then, I had more than enough time to do so since I was a fresh grad and had no work yet. But after getting hired, I lost all the free time and would rather go out on my rest days to unwind. After getting married and having children, I started to write again and spent about half a year, giving in to my personal longing to compose articles. Again, I got pregnant and had a baby to attend to that I decided to stop writing again. Now that my youngest is already two years old and we had a new employee on board who shares the same passion in writing, I was encouraged to open my account in my lot again, so I may begin writing even on others' discussions. I am saying these because I've had this depression in the past when I've long wished I would have more time to write but didn't. It was frustrating. But along the years, I've also learned to be patient and wait for the right time. Even after taking a long vacation from writing, my passion never faded and I realized, once a writer, always a writer. =)

Oh i'm sorry I did not write as a regular columnist but was a freelance then. I'm a registered nurse and I was still rendering my voluntary service in preparation for actual work application. I did not have much to do then and was able to produce articles beginning from short love stories to general informative topics. I sent them in hard copies (Internet wasn't a trend yet) and they paid in checks. It was 1998 and they paid around P200 - P400 or US$5-$10 and I can produce around 10 paid articles per month. Then I got hired in a prestigious telecommunications company that compensates well but also demands much time and work that I decided to give up my part-time writing. But am I right, you're still studying? If yes, then you should concentrate on your studies first before you jump into a career. But of course you may try to send articles, if you already have original compositions, to companies accepting from freelance agents. Good luck! =)

What sort of articles did you write about? Did you do your research in the library? I've been thinking about the research part lately. Because we do have to cite where we get the information from, right?

Lovely response :) You used to write for 2 magazines? Which magazines? Interesting, I wonder if I can do that too. You must be so good that they decided to hire you! "Once a writer, always a writer" - big thumbs up for this!

When I was younger i used to write a lot . There was so much more free time to concentrate on writing then, Raising a family and the obligations of life slowed down my writing path. Still I enjoy my time in writing. I try to write something every day. Even it is something shirt and sweet it is stilk meaningfukl to me. Writing just makes me feel better about life and myself.

That's is very nicely said. It's the same with me, I just feel a bit cheered up whenever I managed to conjure up meaningful phrases on my own. Think I should keep a diary :)

Not nearly as often as I used to. I used to blog at least every other day, if not every day. I got out of the habit and just don't do it any more. I think part of that is because my in-laws started complaining to me about what I would post on my blog. I think now that I've stopped blogging for so long that they may not be reading any more, but I don't know. They felt I was "too open" with our life and I had an issue with my MIL rumaging through my bathroom cabinet when she was here for a visit. To her, it was "the same thing". I felt like I had to censor myself , which I resented so I just stopped doing it. I'd love to start doing it regularly again, but it's a matter of putting it back into my daily routine. I used to read a lot of blogs too, but I don't do that so much anymore either.

Oh my! Really? I guess you didn't blog anonymously since your in laws knew about it. You can keep a diary if you want to.

Yes, I try to come here everyday, to update the blog as well and work in the short and long story, kind of a buzy life online as well as offline using just the computer, not the internet. Keep up and you'll be always sharp, they say writing is a gift that a writer can loose so for those like us who likes it we must write the most we can

I love what you said that writing is a gift and to those of us who are able to keep up should write more. It does make our minds sharper :) You write stories eh? What about?

Hmm I'm not such a huge writer though I do some writing from time to time. I would have to say at least once a day. Also if myLot is considered then I do it everyday! :D

i am a content writing. I am doing this stuff for quite some time now. at first i only used to write like 3 to 4 pages. Now I can go up to 10 pages on a good day. however i guess, if it was not about earning my way through i would be happy to be writing a lot less.

Hi Desiree, I have not updated my blog for months too. Same as you, I have not been idle as well. I think posting here and websanswers, where there is interaction among users, is more fun and interesting. It can be rather lonely with blogging, since we are the sole user, and unless we manage to attract tons of great comments, there is nothing interactive about blogging at all.

I can write the whole day for the money. I will get rewarded for it but not nearly as much as when you write for the desire of writing. Being a talented writer takes more than the information that you get in any school. You have to have somewhat more going for you. You must have a passion for. If you do, you will go more than anybody else can.

I think I could write the whole day too, granted that I have the time and enough motivation to embark on such enterprise.

Do not have a blog to write with but I have MyLot. Due to time constraint, cannot do it as often as I wanted to. Still, I make it a point to write as much as I can during my very short available time. And yes, my hats off to those who can write several thousands of words on a weekly basis. Though I can write, writing is still not that easy to me. Still, I'm doing this because practice makes perfect.

Perhaps we should consider writing a diary. That way we can always write, before bed! Practice makes perfect - thumbs up. I almost forgot that lol

Yup I keep a blog. It is a personal blog though so they are purely my ramblings about every life. My thoughts about the ups and downs of life. I have also met some people through blogging (I use xanga) and some of them have become a real close friend
